Penguins will not bring back Guerin

Quote:
If Bill Guerin hopes to play a 19th NHL season, he will be doing so in a uniform other than the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Pens' general manager Ray Shero informed the veteran winger that he would not be brought back to the Penguins this season.

The 39-year old Guerin had 21 goals and 24 assists in 78 games with the Penguins last season. He added four goals and five assists in nine playoff games. Guerin was also an integral part of the Penguins Stanley Cup Championship team in the 2008-09 season.

In 1,263 career NHL games split between the Devils, Oilers, Bruins, Stars, Sharks, Blues, Islanders and Penguins, the Worcester, Massachusetts native has 429 goals and 427 assists.

Several teams reportedly remain interested in the services of the two-time Stanley Cup champion who earned $2 million last season.

Good guy. Did the right things while playing for the Pens. But as the stop gape he was, its time to move on. I see him getting a deal right before training camp opens or around preseason time. None the less, wish him the best.

19 years, wow. Seems like just yesterday the Leafs were passing him up at the Entry Draft to select Scott Thornton. He seems like he could still be a decent insurance policy for a team looking to go deep if they have a few bucks kicking around.

I don't know what teams going to give him a shot when the Pens have almost no goal scoring wingers and are looking for a small cap hit vet, just sent him on his way.

So who are the wingers on the Pens' scoring lines now? I know there's Kunitz and Tangradi, but who else? Would we see Malkin move to RW and Staal play 2nd line center? I can't imagine guys like Conner or Letestu being suitable scoring line wingers. But then again, anyone could be a scoring threat if they have Crosby or Malkin setting them up.

Sadly Dupuis will be a top 6 forward again. Barring any future acquisitions, the top 6 wingers for the Pens will be Kunitz, Tangradi, Malkin, and Dupuis.

Seems to me there are a lot of question marks there. Is Tangradi ready for the NHL? Will Malkin be able to adjust to playing on wing? Will Dupuis prove he's not an overpayed bottom-6 forward?

At least Dupuis can skate and play defense.

Guerin's been ineffective for 3 years, but he's still popping in 20 goals per. Amazing.

A career AHLer could get 10-20 goals if he played with Crosby or Malkin

Pretty much. Even if Tangradi is ready and Malkin shows the 100 point ability at RW what happens if some one gets hurt? Talbot, Cooke, Kennedy? I would really like to add another vet top 6 winger.

Anyone have that video of Carcillo asking one of the Flyers if they seen Billy G's stache, and then the camera zooms up close to that picture of him smirking? It's hilarious but I can't find it.

Found it

$1.4M is overpaid now?

Ideally, he shouldn't be in your top 6, but paying your top 2 C's $8.7M a piece and spending alot on D in free agency, something has to give somewhere.

Dupuis is a 15-18 goal scorer, solid defensively, in the top 4 fwd rotation on the PK, and damn good skater. That is worth $1.4M

Unfortunately for him, he's played alongside Sid for parts of 3 seasons now, and people expect him to hit 30 goals because of that.

That theory will likely be tested this upcoming season.... Personally, I'm a bit surprised the Pens cut Billy G loose, especially he's so cheap and is in year-to-year mode.
