Miro Satan --- Anyone? Anyone?

I am totally perplexed how there seems to be no interest in ol' Scratch. Last year he came in for the 2nd half of the season and played fairly well, seemed on pace for a 20-goal season. In the playoffs with the B's he had 10 points in 13 games, including 5 goals, 3 of them game-winners.

I think if the Bruins had the space they would have signed him again. He's not the Miroslav of old, but heck, 20-odd goals, most of them timely, I'd have thought some team out there would have picked him up.

Wonder if it's the name that scares teams away....

He might be expecting decent money for his performance last year and he is not going to get it is this market. Just a guess.

"It'll be a cold day in H _ _ _ before....."

I suspect Satan will probably land somewhere as a mid-season fill-in again for some team desperate for some offense, just as Boston was last year. He's at the age now where no one is going to clear a long-term roster spot for him.

The main reason he produced so well in the playoffs is because he took most of the regular season off. His legs were a lot more fresh then everyone else's. He and/or GM's might know this so he probably won't get many calls until mid-season.

Charlie Daniels would make a killing on the royalties from all the newspaper stories that would use his song title in connection with a Satan story....

Maybe so but Satan has made a living out of great pair of hands around the net moreso than from any skating speed or agility. He's never been one to lead rushes up ice or break away from defenders because of his mobility.

Halák and Miro Šatan practicing in Bratislava for HC Slovan. Which is very common.

(Note Jaros new Warrior gear. But I'm not betting money that he'll have Warrior on opening night.)

Jersey's backup plan if they lose Kovalchuk.

Come on Nashville. You have 8 billion forwards but still I just want to see Satan pose in front of the church next door to the rink. The chants in Nashville would be insane....

"The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!....'

I'd love him on the nucks, you think they'd let him have 666 as a jersey? I'd sign him just for the humor alone.

If he was on the Devils he'd need to be 66, I hate the Devils but I'd buy that jersey.

I expect him to do the same thing as last year and preserve himself until midseason. It worked for him last year

Here's my question. Is he sick of the last name crap? I mean, I would root for the guy if he came out and said, "Yeah I would sign with the Devils if it weren't for the fans and their **** about my name."

Another guy the Kings could use to shore up the offense for this season. They aren't making it out of the 1st round with their current roster and they have plenty of cap space and roster spots to make something happen. I wish Lombardi would grow a pair.

Satan has great hands, nice release, deadly in close, good on shootouts and helpful on the PP ... but beyond that, the well runs dry super quick.

He's weak defensively, not fast, a non-factor along the boards, has zero physical game and generally can be invisible for long stretches.

If you want a one-dimensional player who can nail it in those rare situations but doesn't really contribute much else, then he's your man.

I remember interviews when he was in Buffalo that asked him about it and he didn't seem to care about the references.

I suppose he could end the devil jokes by inserting a letter "H" to read as the name is pronounced - but that would probably invite jokes of a different kind as soon as he goes into one of his infamous slumps. "SHATAN" would quickly be morphed into something less flattering.

I think that what you've wrote is correct, but I'd say that watching him last year I was surprised how good he was as the second man in along the boards. As the first man in he's out muscled, but when he's supporting a teammate he's very good at recovering the puck and passing it quickly.

I also think that his defense is a bit underrated. Miro is a guy that has a very good understanding of what he can and cannot do. On defense he knows he can't out muscle people so he doesn't try to. On the other hand, he's quite good at floating around the passing lanes and breaking things up. Obviously this is not a perfect defensive strategy, specifically, it can make it hard to fit him into a system, but it is better than nothing.

One other thing that I think makes Miro attractive to a contender looking to fill a spot during the season is his decision making. He knows when to dump the puck, he knows better than to make a drop pass at the blueline, and he generally makes the right choice on the ice. In this regard I'd say that it might not be such a bad thing that he can be invisible for stretches. Obviously you'd want to notice Satan because he scored, but you're rarely going to notice him because he made a mistake.
