Edler or Subban

In a keeper league, short story is that I have two keeper D. Doughty is my first and Edler was going to be my second but Subban is available in FA. I could pick him up and then keep him instead of Subban.

Thoughts? What would you do?

I like edler and if he's 1st pp unit for Van thats huge but Van is pretty deep with PMD and he's not always 1st pp. Also not sure his offensive ceiling is that huge, I see him as a 45 to 50 point dman, which is good.

Subban seems to have potential though, not sure he will be as good as he was in the playoffs all year but he's got a chance. What to expect this year? is 40+ points realistic? will he be 1st pp unit?

thanks in advance

I wouldn't count on 40+ from Subban this year. He'll be good, but I think expectations are a little overblown for him this year. Edler will be solid and you will know what to expect. Its risk versus eventual reward I guess if you go with Subban.

Edler isn't a goal scoring threat and he may not be as fast or flashy a skater but he can get 40+ pts and has already proven it. Also, he was massive during the playoffs with Vancouver and he'll improve more I think. Maybe he's better than Subban defensively too.

Yeah Subban has the higher upside but might never reach it and since Edler is relatively young, I'd go with Edler.

I think if you have any sort of hockey intuition and watched him play you will go with Subban. Still the others are right you may have to settle for for less than 40 pts this year. One other factor if you have PIM's in your league is Subban does not take many Penalties.

My protected Dman choices are:

Weber or E. Johnson

Subban or McBain

looking at trading McBain

Well it's about trading assets too in a fantasy league and although I suggested taking Edler, if you think you can get high value for Subban like Edler + a pick then maybe go for Subban even if you don't plan to keep him.

Edler for one year, Subban for the long haul.
