How about trading Price for some respectable assets and then signing Niemi to replace him?

Philly is probably the mystery team. They have an abundance of defence and weak goaltending. I hope its not Clowe going the other way though, immediately thought of him when i read forward with size. hows about

To philly
Price

To san jose
Couburn

To Mon
Leighton
McGinn

Dont know why Mon would do it, but you never know, they traded halak for eller and schutlz after all.

I'll believe it when I see it, all Montreal shouldn't have done was trade Halak, trade the Money eater, such as Spacek and such, sign Halak and trade Price to St. Louis for Eller and Schultz. Then Montreal would've been in the playoffs a second time.

The Habs wouldn't do it. They wanted to keep Price badly enough that they traded Halak instead for what you yourself seem to consider an average return, despite him having been a huge part of the team reaching the conference finals. To me, that says that the organization values Price a LOT, not that they want to turn around and flip him too for a similar (but worse) package.

?
The Habs have been in the playoffs three years in a row, and four times in the last five seasons (needed one more win in the one season they missed since the lockout).

Also, what if nobody wanted Spacek? What if the Habs wanted to keep him? What if, for the same reason you think the Habs should have kept him, the Blues were intent on trading for Halak and not Price?

All that aside though, I think the Habs will be in the playoffs. We should make an avatar bet.

Im pretty sure the reason that Mon traded Halak was because of their egos. Halak was a last round pick that happened to become and excellent goaltender. Price was the 5th overal pick in a fairly deep draft. I feel montreal would rather trade halak and keep Price saying he hasnt reached his full potential yet, then trade Price and keep halak and admit they made a mistake drafting price.

This is a multi-million dollar business we are talking about. You think Gauthier, who was not GM when Price and Halak were drafted, cares more about Gainey's ego than the success of the team and thus the security of his job going forward? Why?

Why not? I don't really understand why people are questioning that duo that much.

lol. what? why?

who plays goal for the Habs, and why are the Sharks at all interested? pretty sure they made their bed with Niitty+Greiss, and they're going to lie in it.

The article reads a 3-team trade... Not Price to SJ.

So, which teams have a dman the Sharks may want and need a goalie? Flyers are the only ones I can think of (Coburn). Clowe fits the bill for fwd with size...

Any other teams?

Exactly what I was thinking. Price isnt being shopped to SJ. Its to another team for something that MTL would then turn around and trade to SJ for something else.

If Price is playing serious hardball for a contract its very possible MTL is looking into trading him and signing Niemi. Thats a very plausible situation.

Just speculation obviously but it says MTL would be getting a number 1 back in trade. I would love to send Smith to MTL for Price. Dont know which defensemen they would be after from us that would be on the move. Obviously not Hedman, doubt for Ohlund, Lundin doesnt fit the bill, Kubina just signed so not him, same goes for Clark and Jones.

Fun to think about what it could be though.

Actually, you'd be trading Smith to the Habs for ?

It would be like this:

To MTL:
Clowe

To Team X:
Price

To Sharks:
D-Man from Team X

No way.

Price is going to the other team, and a D-Man is coming to SJ, assuming this is true...

A #1 goalie has to be going to the Habs along with a d-man.

So unless you are willing to trade Lundqvist...
