Tor-Edm-Anh (Penner)

To TOR
-D. Penner
-J. Lupul??

To Edm
-C. Gunnarsson
-B. Mikkelson
-Anh 2nd 2011

To Anh
-S. Souray
-L. Caputi
-Tor 2nd 2011

Edm gets rid of Souray and replaces him with 2 young D prospects
Tor gets a strong top 6 winger, Burke type player and Lupul who is a great top 6 player when healthy.
Anh gets a veteran offensive D-man to replace Nieds and a pick that should be in the 35-45 range.

Penner-Bozak-Kessel
Versteeg-Kadri-Lupul
Kulemin-Grabo-Armstrong

That's a diiiiiirty top 9

I am a Leafs fan so if it seems biased, just let me know and I'll change it. What do you think?

We aren't dealing Gunnar. He has only played half a season and looked good, but his value isn't as high it could be. He could develop into an amazing defenseman IMO and will be a replacement when one of Kaberle or Beauch is traded/not signed.

I like it from every team. But Penner might be too good to move for Edmonton - although the Oil could probably use Mikkelson and Gunnarson who are both close to being NHL regulars.

Anaheim is moving up in the draft by swapping the picks, but is that really enough incentive to take on the Souray contract? I'm not sure what he has left as a player. Anaheim and Edmonton both may require more in this deal. Toronto seems like the clear winner.

Should I give Caputi to Anh? I think Souray could have a couple good seasons, barring injuries. Anh has cap space too, and Souray isn't bad...

I really think we could get more for Penner. That deal is basically Penner for Gunnar and a 2nd. Mikkelson isn't going to break our line-up now, or ever.

Gunnar won't be traded. Too much potential and on the best contract for the leafs.

I'd be more confident trading for Gunnar after seeing how he does this season.

I understand what you're saying, but if Gunnar has a good season, then the Leafs probably won't trade him.

Ducks can't fit Souray under the tight budget while giving up only Mikkelson's two-way contract. It would still be questionable if that was possible if Blake as a salary dump was involved. Lupul is out of the equasion given his injury status.

Oh ya, I know that...I have a feeling Gunnar will be a leaf for a long time.

Unless he he gets caught with an offer sheet next season, which I highly doubt.

hopefully, he has shown skoula levels of poise so far in his short career
and when you look at the leafs log-jam on D, you definitely don't want to get rid of a good player on an ELC

Anaheim Can't take that much cap space. Blake has to be dealt in a deal for Souray.

If I'm not mistaken, mikk is on a 1way deal or he can't pass through waivers, not sure. You are right though, Anaheim has to move more salary.

I'd easily trade Penner instead Hemsky with out Hemmer our organization would be a miss for the next 2 or 3 yeasr at least the guy can make a big difference he makes players better around last year we were a playoff team until he got hurt after that the true color of our team came out

You may be right about it being a one-way deal, I wasn't entirely sure about that (and too lazy to check...) and you're probably right about him not-being waiver-exempt and therefore it not making a difference, anyway...

the only way this would work for Anaheim is if Lupul or Blake are involved. Id really like to add Souray, we just dont have the cap space with Ryan still unsigned

I thought ANH had more cap space? On capgeek it says you guys have have a little over 10M free...

I don't know if many Leafs fans agree with me, but I'd gladly take Lupul off your hands if you wanted.

youre correct, we do have ~10 mil in cap space, but once you subtract the 5 or so million that Ryan is expected to get, then theres no room for Souray, without moving a winger.

Dont say the word Lupul though, it will attract jfried to the thread.

Ducks are a budget team, not a cap team. Lupul is not an option for any NHL team right now given his injury status.

If Gunnarson is as good as some fans here seem to think then he'll be making 3M+ after next year. I dont know why people are bringing up his salary since he is a pending RFA and WILL not be making the same after this season.
