I really didn't feel like making a new thread around one question, so i'm just gonna go slightly off topic here, but i was wondering, since Grabner hasn't played 40 games at the NHL level, and since he's 21, is he eligible for the rookie of the year award this year?

"To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in 25 or more NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie."

I must have missed this, but according to GR, Tyler Arnason was invited to our camp. Wha?

Does anyone think any of the rookies have a shot to make the final cut? Who do you think has the best chance?

I think dadanov is proving he deserves a spot. Everytime I watch him he looks like he's getting more and more confident, which is a rare thing in this organization. He was the best forward on the ice for us for the majority of those rookie games (honorable mention to john mcfarland). Plus, he can provide a hint of offense to an offensively challenged hockey team.

They're probably hoping he plays well enough to earn a contract and then send him to Rochester. I'm hoping Berger gets a contract, I liked what I saw from him.

Not really. Dadonov was definitely the teets at rookie camp, but I think if any forward is going to force his way onto the roster it's going to be Repik.

Kevin O pretty much said don't expect Arnason to end up in Rochester, although I hope he's wrong.

i can kind of agree with this but mcfarland is 3 years younger and provides a skill AND physical element which dadonov just doesnt have. plus mcfarland has excellent speed and acceleration and great work ethic. kid is well spoken and looks to be someone who has leadership and a good off ice personality. for as young as he is i would have to take him over dadonov.

You'd take the younger guy to get scraps for minutes vs the older guy who's kinda neck and neck and would benefit less from a major role on a lower-level team?

Meh.

Its usually announced but I doubt you'll see too many cuts before the 1st preseason game on the 21st. But I would figure to see some cuts on Wednes next week when they arrive in Rochester (since some will be staying there).

I agree, I'd take McFarland too.. Just going in with that mindset, I think Dadonov made it a lot closer to me after his camp.

Meh.
if this is directed toward me, no. i would rather have mcfarland play 1 more year in juniors because dadonov is more polished as of now but i think mcfarland should easily pass him soon by a decent margin

I was there. Booth looked really good. Like you couldn't even tell he sat out most of the season last year.
Kulikov was shooting the puck a lot. I guess he wasn't happy he only scored 3 goals last year. He was goofing around with Garrison near the end of practice. I love how most of the guys there were having fun. Really liking their attitudes.
Grabner has some serious wheels.
Guds looked about the same. I think he should spend another year in juniors just so he can work on his conditioning.
Peters is a better skater than what I thought he was.

Sounds good, definitely excited about Kuli this year!

How did Frolik look? Put on some weight?

I don't know. It's hard to tell when he's wearing so much padding.

Maybe GR might have something about it in his blog.
