New Development League in Quebec?

http://www.ruefrontenac.com/mleclerc...n-leclerc-lhps

Seen on Martin Leclerc's blog yesterday on Ruefrontenac.com

In a nutshell, he says that the creation of the Ligue de hockey préparatoire scolaire will be announced shortly. The new league activities would start as early as next fall.

According to the article, the league would be modeled after U.S. Prep Schools, it would be sponsored by NHL players and ex-players and operated by "credible hockey people" (Dominique Ricard, Drummondvile's GM in the Q is the only name I'm familiar with).

For the first year, the league would have U15 and U 17 teams in Terrebonne, Trois-Rivières, Lévis, Québec and at the Hockey Academy in Cornwall. Bishop would also have a U17 team.

The plan is to play 30-40 games a year with emphasis on quality training time.

Terrebonne (their hockey program has been running for a couple of years) will also ice a U19 team playing again prep schools from Lake Placid, Burlington, Rochester, New-Brunswick, Cornwall, Albany et one from Indiana.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how the whole thing develops, but according to Leclerc this project has the potential to seriously hurt the monopoly of Hockey-Québec, to the point where they allegedly tried to convince some of the participating schools to stay away from this initiative

It's early to say what could come out of all this in time, but it's interesting to see some people trying to shake the structure of hockey development in the province.

Probably because Quebec born players are not getting drafted in the top rounds as much as before.

Good news, it's a shame to see so few Quebec players have been drafted in the early rounds these past few years, hopefully this will help.
