I'd would've preferred to have kept Guerin quite honestly if this is what it comes down to.

21 goals over two seasons? If this is who we are considering, lets just play the rookies.

Can Avs fans fill me in on his scoring drought?

I know he's got skill, but could you chalk it up to a Frolov/Brunnstrom situation playing in the bottom 6?

Injuries is what happened to his scoring. He is slower and has worse balance than when he was good.

He might hit over 20 goals playing with Crosby.

He is a likeable guy and works very hard every shift, but I don't think the skill is there anymore.

I think that this could be a win-win situation for pitsburg.

There is no way this guy is getting more then 1mil a year.

He signs a 1-2 year deal at < 1mil and hope he clicks and finds some gear ala afinagenov. If he puts up 20goals for 1mil hes a solid addition.

Pits needs wingers, Svatos could be a decent 2nd line winger on the cheapo. I dont see why this should be an issue, not like they are signing him for 3.5 over 7 or something.

low risk high reward signing if it becomes true... probably close to the minimum to play there on a way year deal

If it's cheap, which I'm sure it will be, I'm not against it..

Svatos is awesome. Not sure why all the hate? I love this potential signing for the Avalanche. He's one of the best UFA's remaining.

Injuries destroyed his career. Can't complain about him trying, because he gave it all every shift.

However, he got outplayed by other wingers (partly due to his shoulder injuries which hurt his puck skills). So he ended up not playing with players that complimented his game, which hurt his game even more.

I think with his drop in skill due to the injuries, will stop his NHL career. I think his current style his better suited for Europe in my opinion.

But if he does want a chance at rejuvenating his career, I'd say that playing with Crosby or Malkin will probably his last chance if he wants to stay in the NHL. Otherwise it is Europe bound.

There is a good chance that he could manage to score quite a few with Crosbys playmaking, since he isn't afraid to crash the net.

He did manage one really nice goal in the playoffs, just doesn't have the sniping skills he used to have.

I doubt it would take $1M to get him. He is running out of options fast in North America. I bet if Pens offer him a one year $700k one way deal he would accept.

Mareks agents said he wants to play in Pittsburgh.

It's a matter of if Shero wants him.

My guess is if they told Guerin they didn't want him back they had another option lined up.

Unless there is a trade of some sort I would assume it'd be something like Svatos who'd come cheap and has something to prove.

Seems like a good fit for both sides.

With little cap space left this is the kind of guy the Pens are looking for if your talking top 6 winger.

Needs to go to the net to be effective and he quit doing it. Not sure why, injuries or just not playing on a scoring line.

And I don't know why Av fans are constantly promoting his "effort". The guy disappears for games on end.

Marek Svatos, a promising young free agent winger who once scored 32 goals in the NHL, would relish the opportunity to suit up in the Penguins Black and Vegas Gold this season. “Marek would certainly be able to provide offence for a team like Pittsburgh, and on paper it looks like a good fit,” his agent Richard Evans told me. “But ultimately that is up to Ray [Shero]. Pittsburgh is a team that Marek would be very interested in joining.”

Does that work?

Wouldn't be for or opposed. My only question to Avs fans is this: is his skating ability still there? He was always a pretty decent skater if I remember correctly. Basically all I care is that he's faster than Guerin and has the shot. The lack of puck handling ability doesn't scare me off too much just because I'm so used to Kennedy, Dupuis, etc. As long as he can skate and still has a semblance of the shot he used to have I'm okay with this.

If he comes cheap, this has the potential to be a dynamite pickup for Pittsburgh. With the limited cap space, Shero needs to think outside the box when it comes to bolstering the wing position. The signing of Svatos is exactly the kind of move the Penguins should make. Svatos could easily recover his old form and score 25-30 goals on Crosby's or Malkin's wing.

At worst, he's around 15 goal, 40 point guy, which isn't much worse than the Pens' current options at wing.

Kunitz - Crosby - Svatos
Dupuis - Malkin - Talbot

^ That top 6 looks a bit better with Svatos in it. I still feel so sorry for Malkin, though. A superstar and he's playing with scrubs.

Correct me if any of the following are wrong:

Tangradi>Dupuis
Tangradi>Talbot
Tangradi>Kunitz
?????
thats the impression I have of the kid from reading these forums. Tangradi Is a top 6 prospect and none of Kunitz,Dupuis, and Talbot are top six players, regaurdless of where they play on pitts' depth-chart. And as far as I know Tangradi has the body to playin the NHL last season while he dominated junior.

Feel free to straighten me out if I'm talking out of my ... on this.

Kunitz-Crosby-Tangradi
Dupuis-Malkin-Svatos
Kennedy-Staal-Talbot
looks great to me especially considering that the great d corps you guys have will keep you from having to score many goals to win games.

p.s. are you so cap strapped that you can't afford Guerin at a retirement deal of a cap hit and Svatos at this supposed under a mil cap hit as-well?

Well, Im obviously a big fan of his and I can tell that Svats will always give you 110%percent the problem with him is he cant stay healthy and has lost all of his confidence. I remember awhile back when he scored 27 or 28 goals Mcnabe I think it was asked him how did he get back to form and Svatos just said he just needed to get his confidence back and the was a big problem with him. Anyway to answer your qusetion yes, he is very fast but his shot he pretty useless if its not from right in the dirty area of the goal. His puck handling abilty was good when he was a rookie but its gone now. He will be most effective with Crosby and if Svatos finds the back of the net early next season then, he can really start carrying the puck and if he can find chemistry with Crosby he easily can become a 30+ goal scorer. I wish him the best of luck with pitts.
