That depends on his production. I don't think he's underrated in the sense that people know he's high energy, fast and gives 100% on every shift. He hits, fore-checks hard and causes havoc around the puck. People know this. But his offensive explosion with the Rangers is either a sign of untapped offensive potential not seen before. Or it's a fluke of circumstances. That's to be determined. But with his skating and effort level, he's always going to be a guy who looks good in training camp.

Werek's skating is not his strong suit.

The run is later this evening. Then more skating tomorrow around the same time. I would guess they will do something tomorrow night as well just unsure as to what it may be. Maybe conditioning tests off ice?

Werek's skating improved drastically from last season. The discipline part is still a work in progress, and I think we'll see progression as he continues to mature as a person and a player.

Torts seems like such a dick.

We get it John, you'r a tough guy.

This just comes off way too much like Torts just trying to be his normal dictator self.

I'm not understating the importance of conditioning and what not, but John, why don't you worry about winning hockey games? Yeah, these dumb conditioning tests really helped us out last year.

If Redden has an overwhelming camp, the Rangers do have some decisions to make. But almost none of them involve keeping Redden -- to do that, the Rangers would have to farm out several other veterans just to get under the salary cap.

I'm not saying it has anything to do with Torts' camp, but we did come out guns-a-blaze the first 10-15 games last season.

The conditioning drills do serve a purpose in allowing Tortorella to judge his players fitness levels

Yeah, I don't really see the problem with the camp. Torts has his weakness but I don't know what not winning games has to do with this. There are a lot of players at camp right now and he wants to know which of them have been lazy and which haven't, that's all.

Last year the players said that there fast start was partially because they were all so ready physically compared to other teams.

How bout addressing me, the poster? If you knew anything about me, you'd know I was a huge Renney supporter and never wanted him replaced, let alone Torts to take over.

I don't doubt the importance of conditioning. But at the same time, is this something that's exclusive to the New York Rangers?

As if other teams don't stress conditioning right? This is freakin' professional hockey.

Torts came in and threw Renney's team under the bus, in his usual classy way, saying how out of shape they were.

Then last season he had them all terrified about his training camp, stressed this conditioning crap, and the team missed the playoffs for the first time since the lockout, had one of the worst home records in the league, and was absolutely BRUTAL from the end of November to middle of March.

I'm sorry, but this whole thing just reeks of everything else Torts does; attempting to prove his authoritarian power.

At the end of the day, we've already seen this has no effect on how this team plays the game of hockey.

If you're making that comment, that's what you're saying. Otherwise, why would you say it?

Cause that 10-3 start under Renney the year before never happened, right?

I think being in shape certainly helped in starting the season 7-1 last season, but the team also started 10-2-1 in 08-09. Again, I think the demands of his camp give the players an edge since they come into camp ready, and like you said viper, it was a partial help. It really shouldn't be a big issue that he's running conditioning tests, he just wants to see where his players are. This is coming from someone who is not a Tortorella fan, too.
