Guerin to Philadelphia on a tryout?

Quote:
Bill Guerin working out in Flyer attire. Tells CSNPhilly.com he hopes to get tryout offer. More on this later.

Has he developed any goalie skills? Not very interested when the guy couldn't put the puck in the net while on the same line as Crosby.

He would have been #4 on the Flyers in goals last year....

This guy is old and washed up. I won't mind if he gets a tryout, but I'll be pissed if he's given a contract.

agreed, i'd hate to seem a bum try to step into gagne's top six role, or in asham's 3rd line role

holmgren has figured out there's more of a return in trading players than signing free agents

not really, even if you have great depth like Philly, Guerin's legs don't allow him to play defence anymore. 10 of his goals last year were scored on the PP so don't expect many goals unless you can find him a spot on the top unit. His hands are still decent but everything else isn't.

He's not a 3rd liner. He slow and sucks defensively. He can't backcheck or forcheck effectively and he can't kill penalties. Not 3rd line material and that's why he was dropped by the Pens.

I do think he can be an effective spare/part time offensive player. You just have to limit his minutes and games. Hide him on the 4th line, use him on the 2nd PP and double shift a skill guy with him at ES here and there and I think he could be somewhat effective still.

No room in Philly, really. Zherdev is already taking up the 'no defense' minutes on the team.

Sad to see Billy in Orange and Black...but if his lack of speed and declining skills find a way into their lineup and hurt them next year, cheers

If he brings Crosby with him he might be able to repeat that feat.

Not to mention that last year was just one giant aberration in terms of points so it's not a fair comparison to say that he would have been fourth on the team in goals last year.

Billy Guerin tells me there is nothing going on w/he and the Flyers. Says he's visiting Philly and they said it was ok if he skated.

I remember back when he was an Islander there were rumors of him going to Philadelphia for possibly Lupul, but I think the deal fell through.

Either way, he'd be an excellent fit for the Flyers. Stanley Cup experience, leadership, great in the locker room.

Why does anyone think Guerin could contribute on a 3rd line?

I think Guerin can add that experience and leadership to a team that needs it. I just don't think the Flyers need it. They have plenty of veteran experience and leadership on the team already.
