Contender - probably SJ or Philly
Non-contender - probably Edmonton or NYI

I find the use of the word "dummy" just cracks me up. That would be on his agent IMO.

You wouldn't want to ruin the chance of tanking again.

He's not going to San Jose. It makes absolutely no sense, and Niittymaki is a better goalie than Niemi.

I think his only real options are Washington and Edmonton. My bet is on Edmonton.

Tallon's gonna bring him to Florida split time with Vokoun, Vokoun leaves @ deadline, Niemi gets #1 until Markstrom comes and takes it from him next year

My guess would be Edmonton. He would fit well in with the Islanders as well, but they seem to keep saying they don't want him. Philly said they don't want him.

To me, that leaves Edmonton as the front runner. Even if Khaby comes back at some point, he is too old and not the same goalie he once was. JFD is not a solution, he's more of a backup. I'm not sold on Dubnyk. Roy is not ready. So to me, you get a real goalie who is still young and could grow with this rebuilding team.

I really can't see Edmonton going after him, unless Khabi is not coming back at all.

Ottawa has no cap space available. We'll most likely stick with Leclaire and Elliott this season and sign a goalie next off-season when we have approximately $12 million freed up.

Edmonton signed Martin Gerber this summer, end of story.

haha but everyones always writing off Dubnyk just cause probably no one has seen him play

but at the end of the day Im happy with Jeff Deslauriers still

Niemi would not hurt though.

I'd go for the pay-day if I was him.

He's already got the cup, why not?

I agree with the sentiment, but not the analysis, ha ha.

Khabiboulin is mr glassspine, he is at best a 1A now. JDD may end up being a good 1B, and if he is to have a future, I think the Oil should have him in that role. But, I don't see him being ready for the entire load, so Niemi should be brought in, just in case Khabs can't play (or gets let go). That would leave Edmonton with this, as I doubt any team would pick up Dubs going through waivers.

Oilers- Niemi 1A, JDD 1B
AHL- Dubnyk 1A, Gerber 1B
ECHL - Roy, Pitton

That's a sharp improvement over last year's system.

Do you honestly see any NHL backup clearing waivers at this point?

Agreed. They already have 6 goalies from NHL to ECHL, so another would essentially mean that someone goes home and gets paid for nothing.

The news that he is signing within 48 hours on the eve of the Khabibulin sentencing is too coincidental for me. IMO, the idea of Niemi going to a contender is wishful thinking on his part.

My money is on him signing in Edmonton.

I also tend to think he's going to Edmonton, and probably for a much more attractive package than many seem to be suggesting he has to sign. I'm not at all convinced he has to settle for peanuts simply because he's signing in late August / early September.

No, most people are writing him off because he's slow laterally, gets rattled from soft goals, and has pretty mediocre stats at every level. I've seen enough of him to not be overly impressed.

Niemi is a pretty large upgrade over Deslauriers and Dubnyk. He's roughly the same age as Deslauriers anyway.

To the guy who said Nitty was better than Niemi, you are silly. Nitty might be the most inconsistent goalie I have ever seen play in my life, dude is sloppy and looks like a fish out of water in the crease the way he flops. You take Nitty as your starter in SJ and see what happens, I think Greiss will steal that job, Nitty is <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Nabokov, and you couldnt win with him.

I'm not comfortable with the young goalies, but you do know that last year was their firsts tint behind that awful team right?

JDD has amazing athletic ability, but the guy is bad positionally. He would be great one game and just brutal the next.

DD was very shaky when he first came in, but he settled down by the end of the year (Probably because the games meant nothing anyways).

I can't see him coming to Edmonton at all. Not with 4 goalies signed.
