Johannson is saying how these negotiations are not abnormal, he says talks are a lot more amicable than people might think and that Price has no intention of missing training camp.

He also pointed out that in 15 years, Johannson has never had a player miss training camp and that Michel Godbout's report that Price is demanding $3 mil or he would strike is "silly".

Always good to hear. The pessimist in me wants to suggest that Johannson is running damage control for his client who's already in a tough enough position (having to take up the reins from a fan favorite like Halak) but whatever, I'll just take this good news for what it is and not think about the rest

Thanks Tony! Unfortunately I can't listen to you today, but I'm sure you'll make it a great interview!

In these interviews, I always try and read between the lines and Johannson was very adamant that a deal will get done "sooner rather than later" and that Carey will be at training camp. I was surprised he went as far as he did to reassure Habs fans but at the same time, he could be setting up Gauthier & Co. to look like the bad guys if a deal doesn't happen in time. He was quick to praise the professionalism of the organization though.

He didn't say anything unexpected. He used cliches and said what everyone wanted to hear. Nothing wrong with that but I won't get too excited over the interview.

Nothing is abnormal about these negotiations, not any more abnormal than negotiations between the Stars and James Neal for example.

But this is Montreal, where EVERYTHING gets blown out of proportion

Just give him $10,000,000.00 for 4 years, $2,500,000.00 per season and bring him to UFA status in 4 years so that he has something more to play for and to prove.

This makes his affordable, cap friendly and trade-able!

Personally, until training camp begins and Carey Price is not a member of the Montreal Canadiens yet, I won't lose sleep over this at all. In fact, even if he's not signed by training camp, I still won't fret...

but that could just be my easy-going caribean nature though lol

bring him to UFA status? Why the hell would we want that?

either bring him to one of his last years of RFA or eat up some UFA years.

2.5M/y? Why not 2.0M/y? That would make him even more affordable, cap friendly and trade-able!

Actually, giving him a 4 years contract, will not bring him to UFA status..
edit: forget that, he will have 7 NHL seasons.

and either way, if you're Carey Price's agent...how does that deal benefit your client?

No, that's worse.

Either sign him 5+

Or 2 or less.

4 years takes him to UFA, as you say, but 3 years takes him to being one arbitration award away from UFA.

My guess is that the above is the EXACT argument between Price and Montreal right now. Price's agents probably want 3 or 4 years, and Gauthier wants 1 or 2.

I hope they will settle for 2 at 5M (2.5/2.5).
