I hope the first year is 1,5mil (his true value) and next year 4mil (his inflated value, based on the fact that Gauthier and the organization just gave him the "franchise" goalie status).
Anyways, I'm just glad this idiocy is over. Now, Price better step up, perform and erase any doubt about his status.

Who cares what money he actually makes per year...the only think that matters is the cap hit, which at 2.75M for the next two years is quite good IMO.
Man, some people just look for anything and everything to complain.
Appearntly it is 5.5 according to Tony Jellybeans Marinaro. Add another 125K to that 5.625 cap hit.
Sorry guys I meant 125K.
So it's exactly what I thought it should be. This cap management stuff is easy.
It's a reasonable Price in comparison to Halak and proves to me, cap space had nothing to do with the Halak trade. Price was their man all along and i'm fine with that. We could of afforded either goalie, I don't really agree with their evaluation, but I can see why they came to the conclusion they did.

I hope it's 5m this year and 500k the next one. So that we can trade his ass to a bottom feeder trying to reach cap floor when he stinks up the joint this season.
Must say, this is a win so far (term) for Gauthier.
He will be 2 years from UFA, which makes it unlikely (if not impossible) that he can ride his arbitration rights to free agency.
Odds are we have a cushion and can make a choice on him long term or not in two seasons. If he's not established by then, the team is protected. If he becomes a star, we have the cards to get him signed forever.
Good work on that.
Hopefully it's 2.5 or less as an average. Given the Niemi deal, I bet it will be.
I agree this is the ideal term for Gauthier, and the price is a bit high but that's the Habs fault for treating him like a stud since day one.
Now if he can he learn to be consistent, and not to fall apart after a bad goal or two. And to track the puck at the points and through traffic. And not to give up on the play and freeze when he does lose the puck. And not to regularly wind up facing the net when the puck goes in it.
Sigh. He's got all the tools, but he's still incredibly young to carry an NHL team. Fingers crossed.
It's kind of funny to me he makes the same salary as Halak is going to make next season. Of course, lower cap hit, but same salary nonetheless.
I can't really see how he earned that, but whatever.
He's not necessarily going to earn that much. Bonuses count against the cap.
I don't think you should ask yourself how come he's earning the same as Halak, I think it's the other way around. Halak should earn more than 2.75M next season.
Price was at 2.2M, he's now officially the #1, had a very good rookie year, a great start to a sophomore season that went downhill after his injury and had a pretty decent 3rd season that could have looked a lot better had he received better goal support (he also played twice as many games as Halak without Markov, a key player that influences our record instantly).
So really, a moderate .550 isn't bad or surprising.
I'm more surprised that Halak has a 2.75M salary for his first year, but obviously this contract was also made to appease a cap hit.

Yup Price in three years has a great year and a half and a bad year and a half.
