Yeah except Halak signed a 4 year deal, so it's obviously going to be higher.

If we had signed Price to a 4 year deal (which would have been stupid because he would have been UFA right after), the 2.75 cap hit would have been higher, we'd have had to pay for "potential".

I don't know if I'm making sense and I don't know how to explain it, I'm tired. I'd be grateful if someone that understood what I meant could pick up the ball while I keep sipping this delicious wine.

No doubt the Cup winning Niemi signing set the bar and allowed the Price signing to be more realistic than what the Price camp was probably asking for. Good for all involved.

Price's hit is okay. Pointing out that we'll be watching Price and Auld instead of Price and Halak is not exactly a gigantic win on the ice. I'm not a big Auld fan. I'm not any kind of Auld fan.

It was just to put things into perspective.

Finally my boy Pricey is out of the way .. now the habs are gunning full speed for Dustin Penner! 2 Habs would be going the other way, a Forward and a Defenceman. STAY TUNED!!!

Good contract. The Habs get a cheaper goalie option for the next two seasons and some much needed cap flexibility. For Price, this does not cut into his UFA status and gives him an incentive to prove to himself and the rest of teh leaugue he is an elite goalie.

Great news that he's signed.

Think it's a little much, but whatever.

Let's get this thing on the road!

Maybe he's on a secret mission to find out the truth about whether his buddy Josh Gorges was ever a captain for the Rockets.
Hahaha, Carey is quite the spy. I heard he read through Gorges' journal too in search for any clue.

Good deal imo, exactly what I expected and hoped for. Well, of course I would have prefered 2.5, but I think anything below 3M is fair, and 3M would've been too high but still acceptable.

Bottom line, really nothing to complain about. And for people starting to talk about how much he makes per year instead of the cap hit, god damn stop looking for every possible reason to complain. You're not paying him out of your pocket, the only thing that affects the team is the cap hit, leave it at that...

I think Pierre Gauthier deserves some props here. Although it's obviously difficult trading your playoff MVP, Price and Auld's combined cap hit will almost equal that of Halak's this season, and with the extra money PG was able to re-sign Plekanec (regular season MVP), not to mention getting Schultz and a potential 2nd line, maybe even a future 1st line centre in Lars Eller.

PG

A million less cap hit than Halak which is fair. Is he still a RFA when the contract expires?

Yep, for two more years.

Happy with the deal and happy it's finally done.

Like the term and the cap hit.

How much cap space do the Habs have to work with now?

The Halak deal, his agent said, is really two contracts. They did a two year deal to take him through his RFA years and then a two year deal that covered his first two years of UFA status.

Then they stitched the two together, which is why it has the higher hit and strange structure.
