That's what we said about Niitty and Greiss.

Turco>>>nitty. Even with a meltdown year in the mix.

We had questionmarks as to who we call our starter, chicago can pretty much bet that unless turco has a meltdown again they've got a starter and a hungry backup.

"washed up turco": 22w-20L- 2.72GAA- 91.3% saves-4 shutouts
Niitymaki last year: 21w-18L-2.87GAA- 90.9% saves- 1 shutout

Now, consider that niity has only reached 20+ wins one other time in his career and niity's "good year"=turco's "washed up year"?

also consider that turco starts 10-20 more games a year, has much more impressive career stats, has stickhandling abilities that spark offenses and has actual playoff experience, and I think there is no question who the better goalie is.

There are three teams who can use Greiss this season...Islanders, Flyers and Predators. Everyone else is pretty much set with their tandem.

Greiss is going to NYI for their 3rd allowing us to move our 2nd in a Dman package. Hopefully the distance between our second and the NYI third won't be great

NYI 3rd belongs to ANH in exchange for James Wisniewski.

That would be so funny and awesome.

Funny because the Ducks traded him for cheap to get him out the Conference, and then he ends up on the Division Rival.

Awesome because we move a guy with like no value for a top-4 defenseman!

No one will trade a Top4 dman for a backup goalie, Greiss+pick will be packaged with something or someone else.

It wouldn't damage the reputation of the NYI GM, Wiz was signed by ANH then traded away. I'm now convinced that anything is possible due to this offseason.

That wasn't my point. Trading for someone's rights is different from trading for a signed player. If he was still unsigned, my Greiss proposal would've been fairly realistic.

I'd be SO down for a Greiss+ for Wisniewski swap.

As long as we keep our 1st this year. I really think we need to pick up a solid LW in the draft....

You don't draft by position in the NHL. You take the best available player. When you're drafting 20+, the organization doesn't need anything that the draft can offer.

Turco, at this point in his career, is barely any better than Nitty... and even that is debatable. Your stats don't take into consideration Dallas was a better team, better coached, and didn't ice a roster with 50% roster turnover every season. Although he didn't coach them last season, Tippet installed a strong defense first philosophy in the Stars during his 7 years there which was still evident after Crawford took over. So despite the similar stats, observers would argue that Nitty was the better goalie last season. The only thing Turco has over Nitty is stickhandling. Turco was known for most of his career as being a playoff underperformer, while Nitty has been nothing but dominant in the playoffs winning two Finnish Championships as well as being named MVP of both the Olympics and Calder Cup playoffs. Nitty was trending up to be an above average starter (like Turco in his prime) until the entire Flyers team had one disastrous season and wholesale changes were made. Since then Nitty bounced around and couldn't regain his form mainly due to injuries, not for lack of ability. Healthy again, he proved last year what he can do despite playing for a very sub-par team with little cohesion and poorly coached. Don't think for a second that Nitty is going to concede the starting job to Niemi. It is still very much up for grabs.
