No. I'm not messing. It's truly a CLASSY gift. I'm sure you'll be reading about it in the mainstream press very soon. I'm told that the newspaper in the town in which it is being made will break this story on Monday.

Sure it's time for him to retire, but I'm still sad to know I'll never see him play again :-(

Wait - I did say that the dates on this gift denote his professional career. I'm going to contact my source to confirm whether the dates are of Mark's professional career or his career as a Ranger.

I don't know if he's going to retire or not. All I know is that he's played his last game for MSG.
Misunderstood that one! : )

Maybe I'm off, but I don't see him leaving us, and going elsewhere... if he was really interested in playing somewhere else, then why didn't he let Sather trade him to a contender? At least he would have had a shot at the cup.

No you didn't misunderstand. I have worded my rant ambiguously and am trying to reach my source for a clarification. Shame on me, not shame on you.

The timing is kind of strange unless he is going to be named head coach (Sather offered once already) or the Rangers have decided to hire a veteran coach who wants full control and a decision from Messier is required now before he will accept the job.

Denik Sport has just published details of the gift in Prague. So there is no longer a reason for me to keep it a secret. I describe the gift here:

thanks for the info Rodent.

Anyway, I doubt he'd come back as coach...in fact, I thought Mark said himself he wasn't interested in coaching right away. Maybe he changed his mind but I pray to God he didn't.

So basically Messier wants to come back, but Sather doesn't want him? If messier plays with another team, he could still play in MSG. I thought Kevin Lowe was interested in signing Messier?

If Messier plays in Edmonton, he will probably not play in MSG because Bettman appears set on eliminating inter-conference play with the new 72-game schedule. Eliminating inter-conference play allows 8 intra-divisional confrontations with each division rival and eliminates expensive travel for the west coast clubs.

Mind y'all. The 72-game schedule has not yet been officially approved by The Board of Governors. But it is probably a done deal.

let him finish it off in Edmonton playing for his old buddy now GM kevin lowe. That way he can come into the garden and get a nice round of applause as an Oiler. It would show rangers fans in a good light after some of the bad stuff that went down between Montreal and Boston this past year during the anthems.

If the idea of promoting your website comes into your thought process, alienating possible readers isn't exactly the best way to go.

As far as Messier goes, I am sure he would be welcomed in Edmonton, and is one of the greats of all time.

Easy for you to say. It's not your reputation being smeared by a total stranger who has no justification for saying what he said.

I thought initially he was simply being sarcastic or kidding. You know, doing a play on words about "Messier". But then I saw the emoticon and realized he was mud-slinging.

I think your getting your back up a little too much Rodent.

We should take him to task for his "mudslinging"?

I took him to be sarcastic but even if he weren't all he said was "you better not be messing with us" so relax and get some thicker skin.

The guys that know and read your stuff respect your opinions and scoops so leave it at that and don't get bent all out of shape over such a minor little blurb.
