Why Player X is great/was great/was never great/will be great/Chris Waddle

Continuing this hot topic from another thread. Opening salvos were fired when Flyhigh stated that Karim Benzema was no longer "world class". Evilo rushed to his fellow countryman's defense to refute this claim and responded "Your Kaká".

Discuss.

And just to keep things real:

No thanks.
We've had that kind of discussion many times, and EPL fans simply can't see what I'm talking about. Maicon, Yaya Touré, Drogba, Nasri, Benzema, Drogba, Anelka, Henry, Trezeguet, Essien, Malouda, Cech, Ronaldinho, etc... to their eyes, these guys have become good when they left Ligue 1 aka that "mid-tier league".

OK, got it.
With that logic, Benzema is not world class. Anyone who saw him in the two years before last season knows he was.

Evilo would you say Taylor Hall is world class right now?? I wouldn't, that doesn't mean he won't be in a few years... Now I know soccer is a little different, with many different leagues being top class. That said players do change after they leave a league, and may times the younger players do get a lot better.

Another problem here is you guys tossing around "World Class Player", where many people have a different opinion of what that means. For me it would be top 5 player at the position, again that is harder for soccer with no set line-up style like most NA sports.

Problem is, Benzema didn't destroy junior competition. Your comparison is simply not valid.
Again, it SCREAMS EPL bias. Comparing the jump from junior league to NHL to Liga from EPL is simply off base.

The team Benzema played for last year was eliminated from the CL by the very team Benzema used to play for.

As for Flyhigh saying other people don't have credibility, I loled.

Anyway, I'm used to it here, no need arguing.

Have fun with those things guys!

Awards:
This thread is useless. Really not any reason to continue on with this argument.

I will reopen it when another player comparison thing winds up taking over a thread, but now is not the time.
