If this means a building name change I'm going to puke. I always loved that MSG/Giants Stadium/Yankee Stadium refused to have some craptastical corporate name on them.

EDIT: Never mind...apparently it does not involve a name change?

Pretty cool. I'll get to hear the Chase spin on things tomorrow at work.

No, just certain area's of the building will be named by Chase, like the WAMU Theatre will become JPMorgan Chase or Chase Theatre.

Were you serious? Do you really think they'd change the name of the most famous arena in all of sports? Not a remote chance

They need more money for Redden and Drury's contract.

Chase will pay for Redden's salary in the minors as long as he wears a big Chase logo on his Hartford jersey. lol

They won't. They are just going to have the rights to re-name area's of the arena. That and there probably will be a ton of Chase commercials during Knicks and Rangers games to go along with that virtual ad that goes on the glass during the Rangers games.

Rangers game night might be re-named JPMorgan Chase Rangers Game Night, etc.

$30m per year is astonishing for "inside" only naming rights that do not include the arena name.

For a frame of reference, Prudential pays just over $5m per year for naming rights to the Prudential Center.

The new Nets stadium sold the naming rights for their entire arena for approximately $20m per year.

The Madison Square Garden name is so big, though, that it'd be pointless to change it, if you're a sponsor (and worth more to MSG's owners). It's more of a draw than renaming it to something else

That's ridiculous. 30 Million a year just to put your money INSIDE the building. That's great. Hopefully prices will come down, won't count on that though

Maybe the Rangers can use their Chase Points to buy a few extra wins.

I take it those annoying electronic ads on the boards will be even more prevalent now?

If I write to MSG and tell them I'm already a Chase customer, do you think they'll not transmit them to my TV?

Personally, if I advertised with MSG, I'd want to stamp my logo on Redden's Hartford jersey.

Redden's Trip to Hartford - Brought to you by Azrok Co.

Rangers fans would immediately buy my products.

$30MM for inside rights is one of the richest deals ever signed by a sports team(s). By comparison, Citibank is paying $20MM per year for naming rights at Citi Field. One of the reasons this works for a multi layered company like Chase its that it probably includes multiple suites to entertain their New York based customers as well as a barrage of advertising.

Hats off to the MSG management team. They got 300 million of the 800 million dollar MSG renovation cost paid for with something as easy as naming rights (internal ones at that).

One would have to think Chase got a big carrot somewhere in this deal (maybe discounted or free TV ad spots on MSG programming), but when you start talking about amounts as large as 300 million, you really question the diminishing/paltry returns for sponsorship deals like this.
