Anybody have a good explanation of the left wing lock?

Can't really seem to find any videos or diagrams. The only thing that turns up is a longwinded description that doesn't seem very clear.

Got to looking up the Wings/Flyers series in 97 and it heralded the lock as being key to the Wings. Unlike the trap, there is very little good info out there on the lock.
