That's a pretty sweet team.

Other than Bozak, Gunnarsson, and Gustavsson... I don't really think so.

Also, Baier, Kinrade, Schira, Bailey and Lowry were all signed free agents from the previous offseason and played in Bingo last year. They weren't invitees.

And who honestly believes that the invitees are anything other than roster filler? They in no way contribute to the results of the tournament. The good players who are actually part of an NHL organization are the ones who decide these games. If a team were to bring primarily a bunch of invitees, they'd be thoroughly embarrassed and have the floor mopped by the prospects.

Stahlberg, Hanson, Kadri, Mitchell? Unless Kadri is 10x the player he was last year, this would appear to be a weaker entry.

There aren't nearly the number of NHL ready guys on the roster this year as there was last year.

Forwards group is much younger by the looks of it. This year's squad looks more balanced to me, to be honest.

Yeah, you're right. There won't be quite as many NHL ready guys, quite a few of them are pretty young. Olden just turned 18 a week or two ago. I still think it's more solid throughout the roster than it was last year though. I'm excited that guys like Gunnarsson, Gustavsson, Stalberg, and Bozak have moved up and we have this calibre of team to take their place.

And just to clarify, I think what we all mean is more NHL potential up and down the roster.

Not really, the invitees are typically 20 or older and the prospects 20 or younger. The ones you mentioned were aged 21-24.

good call - it's closer than I remembered....still, this year's squad is considerably deeper in real prospects, especially when it gets down to the 3rd and 4th line forwards, and features a number of returning players who should be better as well.

Last year - This year

Stalberg-Bozak-Hanson v. Mueller-Irwin-D'Amigo
Mitchell-Kadri-Stefanovich v. Mitchell-Kadri-Stefanovich
Kurtz-Giliati-Slaney v. Ross-McKegg-Olden
Scott-Champagne-Berry v. Ryan-Carrick-Nicholls
Devane-Greenop v. Devane-Crescenzi-Liambas

Gunnarson-Mikus v. Holzer-Aulie
Blacker-Manning v. Blacker-Gysbers
Lacroix-Smith v. Jackson-Smith
Wallace v. Cowan-Burgdoerfer
???? v. Dorion-Paris

Gustavsson v. Rynnas
Reimer v. Scrivens
Engelage v. Engelage

Yes, but the invitees are fringe guys who weren't good enough to catch on with any organization. There's a reason they're unsigned at that age, they just aren't very good.

Just because some of your rookies are between 21-24 doesn't mean they aren't valued parts of your organization. All of the college aged free agents the Leafs had last year (Bozak, Hanson, Stalberg etc) were certainly not 20 years old.

You just were marking off a list incorrectly. There were like 5-6 guys on the Sens list last year who were filler guys that were invited simply to complete the roster. The rest of them were part of the organization. I can't speak for the Leafs but it looks like there were at least that many invitees last year as well as this year. And in none of those cases were any of those players major factors in any of the rookie games that I watched.

I wish I could watch the games, but I'm stuck in Cogeco territory. What in the hell is the point of Leafs TV if they don't air things like the rookie tournament. Its assinine.

I know but we are looking at it from the standpoint of prospects versus everyone else and everyone else includes older free agents as well as the filler guys. Those older free agents like the ones you listed because of their ages will do very well against 18 and 19 year olds at this point in time even if their eventual ceilings are different.

And I'm saying that only a few of the players in this tournament are 20 and under, a lot of them are prospects that are college aged, just out of junior and headed to the AHL and European prospects who are just coming to North America for the first time. Did you consider any of the Monster, Stalberg, Hanson and Bozak prospects last year? Because they all fall into the 21-24 range you're talking about. It's a rookie tournament, not an under 21 team.

2010 ROOKIE CAMP ROSTER

FORWARDS
Sam Carrick
Andrew Crescenzi
Jerry D'Amigo
Jamie Devane
Brayden Irwin
Nazem Kadri
Mike Liambas
Greg McKegg
Dale Mitchell
Marcel Mueller
Josh Nicholls
Sondre Olden
Bradley Ross

Kenny Ryan
Mikhail Stefanovich

DEFENCE
Keith Aulie
Jesse Blacker
Erik Burgdoerfer
Dave Cowan
Marc-Andre Dorion
Simon Gysbers
Korbinian Holzer
Dallas Jackson
Drew Paris
Barron Smith

GOALIES
Andrew Engelage
Jussi Rynnas
Ben Scrivens

I'm looking forward to seeing the above-bold players in action. Haven't seen Mueller play since the Olympics and I don't really remember thinking much of him, but I guess the Leafs and other NHL teams are paid to see things the common people don't. I'm ecstatic about McKegg and I'm looking forward to monitoring his progression. I think he's one of the biggest steals of the 2010 draft and I hope that he continues to progress the way I think he can after his last year dominating the OHL in the second-half. I'm not expecting much out of Ross and Olden, but it sounds like both have the ability to do things we haven't seen since Tucker and to a lesser extent, Antropov. Looking forward to catching them in action as well.
