I'm really not seeing what Sens fans see about their team that makes it so superior to ours. They're ripping it pretty bad on their board.

we have a better defense and goaltending that being said your offense is much better, which is oddly opposite to the nhl teams. I think we have a better team but then again I am biased.

Olden just turned 18 so I doubt that he was going to be a key player for them.

Maybe I'm just ignorant to other teams' prospects, but Jared Cowen is the ONLY name I recognize on Ottawa's team. Who the heck are those guys??

I'm getting pretty excited for saturday too now.

Wiercoch was a 2nd round pick (2008) and Jim O'Brien was a 1st (2007). Sens fans are very high on Wiercoch - there were hopes that he'd make the WJC team last year. O'Brien not so much.

Other Sens players that are legitimate prospects are Eric Gryba, Mike Hoffman (Q MVP) and Bobby Butler (Hobey Baker finalist).

David Dzurinsky and Corey Cowick are dark horses.

In all likelihood, the guys who will actually perform the best are the experienced AHLers - Schira, Condra, Daugavins, maybe Jason Bailey.

I really have no time for these types of players but I have to agree that it wasn't a terrible hit, just a terrible result. The defenseman turned to facing the boards very late and wasn't preparing himself for a collision when he really should have. The age of the players is irrelevant. It's not a 20 year old's fault that he is playing against 16 year olds. Blame the hockey system for that, it is something that should be reformed although I don't think any such thing is happening soon.

If that was an OHL player with some actual hockey skills, a hit not involving a "head shot" would have been a minimal suspension but since it was a talentless thug the league threw the book at him because he was such an expendable player.

That's a pretty sweet team.

M.Mueller (22, UFA) - N.Kadri (19, #7 '09) - J.D'Amigo (19, #158 '09)
D.Mitchell (21, #74 '07) - B.Irwin (23, UFA) - M.Stefanovich (20, #98 '08)
B.Ross (18, #43 '10) - G.McKegg (18, #62 '10) - S.Olden (18, #79 '10)
K.Ryan (19, #50 '09) - S.Carrick (18, #144 '10) - J.Nicholls (18, #172 '10)
(J.Devane (19, #68 '09) - A.Crescenzi (18, UFA) - M.Liambas (21, UFA))

K.Holzer (22, #111 '06) - K.Aulie (21, #116 '07)
J.Blacker (19, $58 '09) - S.Gysbers (23, UFA)
D.Jackson (21, UFA) - B.Smith (19, #188 '09)
(D.Cowan (24, UFA) - E.Burgdoerfer (21, UFA))
(M.Dorion (23, UFA) - D.Paris (22, UFA))

J.Rynnas (23, UFA)
B.Scrivens (24, UFA)
(A.Engelage (21, UFA))
I'd make these changes...

For me, Olden is a centre (Burke has said they drafted him as one) and McKegg can play LW but i'd like him to be centre too ugh.

Me neither to be honest.

I feel that the Sens defence is definitely better, but I feel the Leafs offense is better as well. Which gap is bigger? Who knows. The bigger question is goaltending.

No one knows the players on the other team very well so trash talking is a little useless. Trash talking involving a rookie tournament in general is pretty funny, kind of like booing at a pick up game.

Very true, and consider also that the rookie tournament is very much about the organizations evaluating their own players to decide who to invite to the big camp -- unlikely that Burke or Murray would even honestly state which team is better before the tourney.

But somehow a bunch of yahoos on an Internet forum are able to do so, without having seen more than 1 or 2 players on either team.

But, this preamble will be no where near as amusing as the debates after the games are played -- as both fanbase's somehow conclude from the results of that one head-to-head game that their prospect pool is better.

It's ignorance really, and not that I blame you. Most fans have little clue about other teams prospects beyond the blue chippers.

Avg Sens fan: "Kadri's good, but the rest of those hacks suck".

Cowen, Weircioch and Gryba along with absent Rundblad are the guys that make Ottawa's defensive prospect pool among the best in the NHL. Robin Lehner's a guy shouldering a heavy load of expectation in Ottawa, personally I think too much, but a higher end goaltending prospect surely.

Missing a bunch of forwards (who isn't?), Hoffman's one to watch, I remain skeptical about an overage Q MVP but many think he's got a future.

I'm not sure why the Ottawa rookie goaltending would be considered better. It is true that Lehner, a 2nd rounder, is the only drafted goaltender on the roster. He passed most of last season in the OHL. On the other hand, Rynnas was the top FA goalkeeper in Europe and starred playing in the Finnish League against men. Scrivens was a Hobey Baker finalist and the most statistically effective goalie in the NCAA. They are both several years older and more mature than Lehner. You might be able to make the case that Lehner has more upside down the road, based largely on draft position, but in a tournament in September 2010, I think I would bet on the older, more mature guys with experience playing against men.

Is anyone else really rooting for Sam Carrick? He's a local kid, and during his interviews after he was drafted, he just looked like he was absolutely thrilled about being drafted by the Leafs.

Kruger wont be there as he will be busy suiting up for Djurgardens. Olsen along with every other unsigned Hawks college prospect isn't there (Hayes bros, Holl, Johns etc). Everyone on that list is Hawks property except for Steele (FA i think) and Fletcher and Palmer who are both on AHL contracts with Rockford.

For what it's worth, Kadri is listed at 6'0" 188lbs on Mapleleafs.com's rookie tournament roster page.
