Wellwood is one North American that'll probably be the most better off in the KHL. He would probably destroy the league.

Welcome aboard! If you can improve our putrid power play you'll have all the in n' out burgers you can handle.

I actually like this signing. Our depth down the middle was one injury away from being a serious problem area. Wellwood could earn a top 6 spot with us, bumping Wolski back to the wing or Turris to the minors.

The real reason why Wellwood pressed his agent to get him a camp invite

I think he's an excellent utility player.

I'll always have a softspot for wellwood. Amazing stickhandler and just show flashes of brilliance. However, terribly inconsistent and very, very weak.

Wellwood's problem is that he isn't well suited for the bottom 6 (in spite of some very good defensive play late in his Canucks contract) and he's always going to be on the bubble for the top 6. The way NHL teams are structured these days he just isn't well suited to any line.

If he is given a chance on the top 6 with some quality wingers he could really come into his own. I agree that maybe Europe is best for him.

When he's on, he's one of the most electrifying players in the league - absolute jaw-dropping skill. The problem is that THAT player only shows up for a three games or so out of every 18.

Here's my favorite play with him:

that would have no doubt made the top 10 best goals of the year if he would have made that.

Hnidy accepted an invite to Phoenix's camp, as well. Some pretty good competition this year with all of Turris, Wellwood, Ebbett, Prucha, Korpikoski, Bissonnette, Tikhonov, MacLean, Boedker, Picard, OEL, Goncharov, Lepisto, Schlemko, and Hnidy fighting for very few open spots.

I think Wellwood will earn a contract from the Coyotes. If he does, how does the center position look for Phoenix?

1. Wolski
2. Hanzal
3. Wellwood
4. Fiddler

If that's what it should look like, where would Turris be in the lineup assuming Wellwood gets a contract? Could they leave him in the AHL for another year? Also, what do they do with Ebbett? 13th forward or AHL?

True, but there's no point in that when he's one of the better faceoff men in the league.

That'd be like us moving Malhotra to LW to give Hodgson the centre spot... ridiculous.

Wellwood could take the faceoff then move to wing after the play starts.

He's better suited at centre, regardless... IMO.

It would likely force Turris or Wolski to the wing. I'm not sure Wellwood makes the team, honestly. There are ton of guys fighting for very few spots. Does he have the sand to take somebody's job?

I liked Wellwood on the Canucks, but man he just seemed to have terrible finish. Lots of really nice plays that didn't end up in the net, like the video.

If he plays with wingers with decent finish he'll crack the lineup IMO. Wellwood's defensive game is air-tight, he gets the puck out of his own end seemlessly and finds the open man in good shooting areas.

I'll be surprised if Wellwood doesn't make the Coyotes. The only way they keep him off the team is if there's a huge emphasis on making the forwards grittier and harder to play against - 'cause Wellwood is neither of those things.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
