Justin Abdelkader to Atl

Granted Atlanta has a lot of bottom 6ers ATM. But in theory, would it take a big overpayment or is there no interesting assets?

I would love an Abdelkader-Cormier-Ladd line in a couple of years, Crash Line plus.

Not sure where you got your information but Detroit is fine with Abby. Babcock had him penciled in to be the 3rd line center until they signed Modano. Someday if he reaches his potential he can be a 15-20 goal scorer who likes to bang. I hope he will turn out to be Detroits Clarkson.

That's coming out of nowhere for me. Abdelkader has made a very good impression on management and the fans alike.

Don't you like Jim Slater? He would fit well on the crash line.

I don't see Atlanta acquiring Abelkader unless it's a straight swap for one of there bottom 6 players. Candidates include Machacek, Thorburn, Boulton or Slater.

Would you trade Klingberg straight up for any of those guys?

Didn't think so.

True although Machacek is the inception. He has put up similar numbers as Abdelkader and would be a fair trade. Although Atlanta has a glut of bottom 6 players and do not need to make any deals to acquire more.

Too be honest my information is just from these boards and I thought Abdelkader was behind Helm on the depth chart. Now that they've brought in Modano for 1 year + Hudler + Zetterberg + Datsyuk (I heard they are being split up) + Flippy I just assumed Abdelkader didn't fit in with Detroits future. Trade him now to get assets?

Cool. Still wouldn't trade abs for him. Comes down to the fact that he is what detroit needs, so why trade him?

Abdelkader can go LW too... He has been taken boxing lessons this summer also since Babcock is going to let him fight.

I can picture Abdelkader turning into a Backes type forward.

Right, Modano for one year. Zetterberg and Datsyuk will be back together this season. Did you think they were together past few years?

And what assets are we going to get for Abdelkader? Nothing that will make it worth getting rid of him for no logical reason.

Did you just randomly make this up? I'm confused because that sure came out of left field.

Abby's not going anywhere, I don't know where you get the impression that Detroit's not "overly fond" of him, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Fail!!

I disagree, to be blunt.

That really sets us back, pretty much out of contention for anything but the #1 pick for several years.

We have a big pipeline of d prospects as it is, and I can only imagine doing an Abdelkader-for-defenseman or pick swap, because I know Detroit has an overflow in the forward department.

5 years ago, that's the point. Younger, cheaper, bigger and more potential.

Slater might be better now, but I'm willing to bet that Abs is a better player in a couple years.

And before you ask if I've watched him play, yes, for four years at Michigan State, and followed his development.

(The #30 pick was originally Detroit's from the Hasek trade as well
