What's Your Top Prospect List #14

After Ben Bishop snagged lucky number 13, the polls become a little more cloudy. Will recent import Della Rovere take the 14th spot? Or will Nikitin, who may start with the Blues grab the spot? Might Shattock, the WHL forward, take this spot? Vote now and find out!

I've got Shattock...he could fit the David Backes mold when all is said and done. He looked pretty good at the Mills too.

Also...you've got Lehtera as a poll option...but he already won a spot in the top-10.

Ah thanks. I was wondering why he was still around. Alright, I'll change it.

Going to go with the mystery man here - Nikitin. Nigro and Shattock after that.

We need to hurry up and finish this top 20! It seems like this process has taken the entire summer.

It's between Hakenpaa and Nikitin, and Kristoffer Berglund. It's hard to say who will have the greatest upside potential. But for having both high potential on offence and defence, I'd pick Hakenpaa. But Nikitin is closer to NHL -ready, and farther along the track of reaching his potential. Kristoffer Berglund may have the highest offensive potential, along with being adequate on defence. It's a tough decision. All 3 have a lot of unanswered questions at this point.

I went with K. Berglund, but hope Hakenpaa ends up better, because he has great size to go along with high skill potential.

Shattock

Here is my list...

#1 Alex Pietrangelo
#2 Vladimir Tarasenko
#3 Jake Allen
#4 Ian Cole
#5 Jaden Schwartz
#6 Philip McRae
#7 Brett Sonne
#8 Jonas Junland
#9 Jori Lehtera
#10 Mark Cundari
#11 Brett Ponich
#12 Sebastian Wannstrom
#13 Ben Bishop
#14 Tyler Shattock
#15 Jani Hakanpaa
#16 Kristoffer Berglund
#17 Stefan Della Rovere
#18 Max Gardiner
#19 Anthony Nigro
#20 Cade Fairchild

Nikita Nikitin doesn't get on the list because he is not a prospect in my mind. If he weren't a Russian, we would have lost his rights by now, so I feel like he is a FA signing. Nicholas Drazenovic doesn't make the list because I don't think he will get more than a sip of coffee with the club. Therefore, I have pretty much ruled him out as having the potential to be anything more than a career AHLer. The others still have a chance to contribute.

Crap, I already voted Lehtera.

I was like "man, I can't believe he's this low on the list."

Similar thought process as me on this one. K. Berglund's downside is his size but in no way is he soft defensively. He plays a very heads up game and even though he isn't tall, he is very thick in build. I got a chance to talk to him last summer for a few minutes and he looked very strong for his size. Also he has the puck moving ability that is very compatible in today's NHL. I hope we sign him next summer and start his transition to North America.

Of all of the players left, the one that has impressed me the most first-hand, is K. Berglund. I put him pretty much at the same level as Cundari...but I am discounting him somewhat since I think it's is more likely than not that he won't sign by next summer and the Blues will lose his rights. He signed a 2 year deal with Farjestad this summer (same team as Junland BTW) and through a few Swedish contacts, I hear he seems to be more than content sticking with the SEL. How true that is, I don't know but with his contract that goes past when the Blues will lose his rights and those hints, I think there's a good chance he won't be signed by the June 1, 2011 deadline. I hope I'm wrong though as he's a good talent with NHL skill...but perhaps he sees the ton of young defensive depth in STL in front of him (EJ, Polak, Petro, Cole, Strachan, Nikitin, Cundari, Ponich, etc.) and won't want to try his hand at the NHL as he fears he might get lost down on the depth chart. That last part was pure speculation on my part BTW...just a thought...but a logical one that I would likely have if I was in his position.

Too bad 4 people (so far) have voted for Lehtera as that's pretty much a wasted vote.

Just post who you'd vote for and we'll include that in the final tally. My apologies for messing up.

Tyler Shattock. I followed him a lot last season, and he seems to be really progressing quite well. He has a great shot and seems to be quite the PP specialist. So far he has a goal and an assist in Traverse City.

I just got a look at the fall rankings and this poll, and was wondering what has happened to Simon Hjalmarsson to kick him down so far so quickly...

He was as high as 8th back in 08, and put up 20 points in 53 games as a 20 year old rookie with Angelholm last year. Thoughts?

We lost his rights as he wasn't offered a contract within the 3 years of being drafted.
