He would be a good replacement for Blake and since its a cap issue and the Flames are stuck on a dump, we could (hopefully) find ourselves in the same place Vancouver was last year taking on the Ehrhoff contract, and not have to give too much. Its a fair contract that I believe will fit under our existing cap. (.......here comes the obligatory CAPGEEK cut and paste .....2, 3, 4, and ............)

Seems like the best possible trade that benefits the Sharks, and I'm not liking it. The third-line doesn't bring the same tenacity and possible offensive threat without Mitchell, and the fourth line is pretty ugly. Not to mention that it puts the Sharks way too close to the cap to be realistic. They theoretically could switch Huskins with Murray to free up more I guess. I also don't see Calgary trading him for just Mitchell and Huskins/Murray +.
Too many ifs and cons, but I guess the article brings some chatter to an otherwise dead offseason.

Are you expecting we are gonna get a D-man most of us agree we need without cutting a little? Everyone seemed OK when it was hammer, although that was before we lost 1.45 in CAP space to Niemi, but still we are going to need to move some players to fill that hole.

Seriously? You wouldn't give up a 4th liner, with the potential to be a good 3rd liner, for a top shut-down defenseman? Wow.

Wow this would be utterly ideal if true. If Sutter really wants to trade him, then we could get him for a good pick + salary dump (huskins? mitchell?) I'd imagine. Since he has the ntc, there won't be many teams that a) he would go to and B) that could afford him, meaning SJ is one of the few teams that would be in play.

A defense with one of the top shut down guys in the league though would make our defense SO much better. Imagine a shut down line of Reghr and Vlassic!

He has a NTC, and he wants to stay in Calgary. Doubt he gets traded, period.

physical shutdown D are rare so sure id want him, problem is he'll cost to much to trade for him. The flames will want more than DW will give...

his quotes don't suggest that at all. He seems very cognizant that this is a team on the decline/rebuild and needs to trade players off. If he really wanted to stay he would have said something more along the lines of 'there's always discussions but I am with this team for the long term' or some other bs.

He will cost us prospects and picks, not any actual talent, but for a 3 year signed Reghr at 4 mil, I'd give them a first + joslin + dump EASILY. We are talking about one of the top 3 or 4 shut down guys in the entire league, someone who was actually in discussion about joining the studtacular olympic team.

I agree if he could be had for that done deal. I just don't believe that i enough - they'll require a high end prospect and maybe another mid to upper mid level pick.
Although it's getting close to camp and teams have their cap. rosters filled out, If the flames were going to do this they would have earlier in the summer while they have some leverage, nit just before camp when most teams aren't interested in dealing.

Agree. 2 goals in 71 games (PO+Reg Season) is simply atrocious.

Pretty sure I butchered that quote....but anyways I also get the feeling that he understands Calgary's situation and I think he would be more than willing to waive his NMC to join the sharks. I wonder what the cost would actually be though...

I'd be cool with Clowe+3rd TBH.

Just as an FYI, the OP spells his name wrong. It's Regehr. (Easy to remember because it says Reg-ear, and he has giant ears. )

Well Regehr, Murray, Wallin, and Vlasic is a whole lot of shut down with out much speed or puck movement, I personally would be OK(ish) with trading Murray + Mitchell for Regehr, value is much fairer then Huskins, and then I feel that would give TMac a lot more D combos with out becoming monotonous
Regehr-Boyle
Vlasic-Demers
Huskins-Wallin
MUCH more complete then what we'd be icing now, btw Murray + picks/prospects for Regehr would still be under the cap.

Robin Regehr: 81 - 2G - 15A - 80PIM - 21:38 ATOI

Douglas Murray: 78 - 4G - 13A - 66PIM - 20:20 ATOI

Worth the extra $$$? Not by the numbers imo... gotta see a bigger gap than that. And we all saw how much better Murray was last season than the year prior. I think he's got a safe spot on the team.

TOI does not show how much better a player is.

I'm sure that during Regehr's 21:38, he wasn't a liability. Murray was.

Stopped for most of us quite awhile ago, but still a few who believe in him.

I'd ditch him in a heartbeat for any sort of upgrade on D.

You guys are silly. I'd rather make a cup run as is as opposed to picking up Regehr.

Getting rid of Murray is not only stupid, but really way out of the question.

Wallin and Huskins come off the books next year, but by the end of this training camp we'll certainly have a better idea of what our defensive depth really is.

Its stupid to pick up any expensive Dmen right now until you have a better idea what your depth chart is going to look like coming into this season.

They need to free up at least $2.3m to get under the cap. Doubt they take those 2 salary dumps as that only frees up $1m.

I'd guess something like 2nd & Ferreiro (they have plenty of D prospects so Joslin wouldn't be attractive). Maybe we can sneak Huskins, too, but doubt it.

Edit: At that point, Murray becomes redundant so trade him for a 2nd. It becomes Regehr and a slightly better 2nd for Ferreiro.

Ridiculous.
