Thank You, Portland

With the official announcement of the Amerks purchase, and the announcement that our affiliation with the Portland Pirates has ended, it's a fair time to say thanks to the city, the organization, and the fans that came on board.

The relationship, albeit brief, was phenomenal.

Special thanks to wildcat48, Chris Roy, Hutch, the rest of MHJs team, and all other Portland fans that provided us immeasurable, valuable insight into the inner workings of our minor league affiliate. You guys became part of the family by bringing to the table what you did, and we'll miss that for sure. With the information from you guys, and the constant reporting and beat-tracking, we were always well-informed and up-to-date.

Thanks, Portland. It was a great run.

Dont get me wrong, im glad that Rochester is part of this franchise again, but I feel bad for Portland, I feel like they got shafted. But anyway, thanks for being good hosts

I feel like Portland took a bad beat as well, but ultimately I'm thrilled to have my home city affiliated with my favorite team once again.

Thanks for everything Portland and Pirates fans.

Couldn't ask for a better affiliate, better fans or from what I hear a better town.

I do hope that some of the fans we've found their continue to follow the team. It was a brief marriage but a beautiful one.

I had legitimately serious doubts about this working when it was originally announced - especially because of how far the two clubs were compared to BUF/ROC distance-wise. But it worked. And the people who came to these boards as Pirates fans and helped us maintain an inner-eye on the Portland team really can't be thanked enough.

I can honestly say I didn't follow Portland like I wish I would have, but from what I read here, I couldn't have been happier to have been a part of Portland despite its briefness. Thank you!

Can't say this enough.

To all our Portland fans: don't be strangers around here. Even if it is just to follow some of the old prospects, you guys have become a part of the HF Sabres family IMO.

Very well said, jBuds

Sabres had a helluva run in Portland and the only regret I have is I never got around to going out to the CCCC to see them play at home.

Agreed. It's been a pleasure talking puck with many of you here (and in a few instances in person) and I wish you guys nothing but the best going forward. Thanks and it's been great.

I also liked Portland. I'm switching AHL teams like it's going out of style here.

Don't worry about Portland...they won't be far from their parent club, the Quebec Coyotes...

The talent we saw come through here in Portland was unreal. We were very lucky! We had a great last team with the Ducks, and thought that would be tough to top....the Sabres stepped up huge and had unreal depth. Hard to imagine anyone bringing that kind of depth soon.

I knew it was just a matter of time until this was announced, but it was fun having you guys as our NHL affiliate. Three rookies of the year in a row is something special and was the standout in my mind during the three year affiliation tenure. Now it's back to rooting against you guys when the Bruins play you!

Eh, we can remain united in our hatred of the Leafs and Habs though, right?
