Reading Royals (ECHL) sign Defenceman Dallas Jackson

Dallas Jackson, wearing number 78 in the Rookie Tournament was signed our ECHL affiliate about a week ago. I`m sure Burke had a lot to do with this, this is how you circumvent the 50 player cap

Pretty good stats in the WHL and looked decent in his first Tourney game.

Hopefully he can develop into a decent offensive defenseman.

From what I saw last night, an ECHL contract makes sense.

Can't hurt though. Let him give it a shot at the ECHL level and see if he can develop enough to get a shot at the AHL if injuries arise.

FYI:

Signing a player to a ATO or PTO (amateur or professional) tryout contract and playing in the ECHL or AHL, does not make that player property of an NHL team. So technically Jackson is no more a Leaf today then he was yesterday.

If he were ever to truly become Leaf property the Leafs would need to use one of those 50 NHL contracts in the future that you believe they're circumventing the process with here.

The Leafs have an association with Reading of the ECHL and part of that process they're required to provide a limited number of players for that team. This could be done via demoting AHLers from the Marlies or signing players to tryout contracts and sending them to Reading.
