Staal was a top pick himself and Staal has shown thousands more talent than Brassard has shown. If we could swap Brassard and a pick for Staal I would be very happy, but why would Pitt downgrade at center just to pick up an extra draft pick?

I do not agree. How many season Brass played? Two. And from it one was ended for injury. Besides, compare Brassard situation and Staal situation. It would be mistake to trade Brassard for Staal. Staal showed more but we must put still one question, why? Is it only for his qualities or for something other? Brass is still young player and a player with a big potential.
As much as I like brassards chance at becoming a stud, I'd send him for Staal, just don't see why Pitt would want to swap centers with staal being the bigger guy/more consistent performer at this point. Jake could be a first line wing as soon as this season. Pitt would have to add a useful d man (overpay) to pry him. Howson probably wouldve done filatov for staal this summer. I'm glad he's still with us - but we'd have moved filly before Jake, for sure.
Value wise it is certainly fair but Columbus loves Voracek, Pittsburgh seems happy with Staal, and Columbus just drafted another potential top line center.
So while I think it is fair, I don't think either side would realistically do it.
Also Pitt isn't rebuilding so Brass + a pick holds little value unless Brass can become a top line winger.
There might have been a deal for Staal involving Filatov+ 18 months ago, but the J-Staal to CBJ thing has flown.

As much as I think that's more fair in terms of players, the contracts are what change the dynamic. Staal is on a long term contract, while Juice is up at the end of the year. This severely bones Pittsburgh.
That's a ripoff from Pittsburgh's perspective. Trading two young pieces for some Above-Average vets doesn't make any sense for them.
Regarding Staal...
I'm of the opinion that he benefits from playing on Pittsburgh. At some point, they'll probably have to move him and some team will figure out if he's a product of Pittsburgh. I hope that team isn't Columbus.

Not fair in terms of players. Two old guys for two young guys.

Pittsburgh is trying to win Stanley Cups. We're trying to develop a winning hockey club. They need Pahlsson a lot worse than we do. Same is true for Juice. I'd be happy to throw in a prospect (Mayorov, for example). I dislike any trade proposals that "bones" either side.

And that is way why they will not trade Staal and Letang which belonged to the most important players in PO.
Besides, I do not belive Michálek and Martin in Pens defense.

Yeah, Brass is young, but so is Staal, so I don't know what your point is.
Staal has been better than Brass in every year of their careers. There won't be any trade with Pitt, I'm just pointing that out so there's no confusion.
We've been waiting on Brass's "potential" for 4 years now, while Staal has been a beast in the playoffs and good in the regular season.
I'd trade Brassard and his bloated contract for Staal in a heartbeat
This, this, and this. I was starting to think everyone was turning into a blind homer, thank you for being objective.
The proposal could have been Crosby for Voracek and the responses would be the same.

I never suggested they would. Trade Proposals on these boards are generally non-sensical. The only entertainment value is in watching the receiving side flame away at how biased the original proposal was against them.

Oh give me a ****ing break dude. Everything that anyone says around here is just them being a homer to you. We have no players like Voracek, but we've got defensive players and goal scorers similar to Staal. Right now this team is better off with a future top 10 playmaker than a top 10 two-way player.
Pittsburgh says no to this trade as well, because it would just be plain stupid to swap your young shutdown center for another playmaker.
Crosby. I mean seriously. Crosby. No one is forcing you to be a fan of this team. If you hate the fans and the team and the management so much then why do you keep following?
