It appears that our all-too-short respite from Barch may be drawing to a close.

Here are a few notes from Friday's practice in Frisco.

The Stars play in Columbus Saturday and then in Detroit on Sunday. Coach Marc Crawford said he'll probably use both Kari Lehtonen and Andrew Raycroft but wouldn't reveal which goalie would play which day.

"You'll have to see which one plays first," Crawford said.

Crawford added he's likely to make a couple of other lineup adjustments as well.

"We're going to try to get Krys Barch in. He's ready to go and went to get him back into the group," Crawford said. "Matt Niskanen will probably re-enter our lineup for the next game. As I said before, I wasn't disappointed in his play, but I thought [Mark] Fistric came in and gave us some physicality in the two-game series with San Jose. San Jose is a big, big team and he is one of the guys that threw his weight around quite nicely last night."

Fistric had six hits last night. That was second on the team to the 11 registered by Brenden Morrow, who played a day after undergoing surgery to repair his broken nose. Morrow, by the way, was one of the last guys off the ice at practice today.

Woywikta showed signs of his game crashing back to Earth last night, so I'd hope that he'd trade places with Niskanen if it's absolutely necessary for him to play, which it isn't.

And of course Barch's feelings need to be assuaged, we all knew that was coming.

So I'm really not trying to drive home the Barch sucks meme per se, but while I was watching 24/7 the other night Deryk Engelland had a good fight with a Leafs player (I want to say Orr, but not sure)...anyways the guy more than held his own with another big fighter and got an 'F yeah Engel' from Bylsma and the team. I totally get what a fight can bring to the team energy/cameraderie-wise, but when the guy who you're 'F yeahing' is constantly on the losing side of those things, is there any way that that is a positive? I just don't get how it's a great room thing to have a human punching bag on the bench.

What am I/we missing???

Stars official says Niskanen and Skrastins collided during third period warm ups, knocking them both out for the rest of the game.

If only it was Woywitka and Nisky. Would be hilarious and great at the same time.

I bet Larsen gets called up.

From Heika...

Quote:
http://starsblog.dallasnews.com/arch...ision-mis.html

"I can't really explain it, but I've had it explained to me a couple of times. Skrasts really likes to get out and get his legs going in warm-up, especially since he was going to be out there on the penalty kill to start the period. And Matt Niskanen was out there and he was going all hell bent for leather, and apparently they collided heads and then a stick slashed Matt's hand, so he broke his nose, chipped his teeth and cut his hand. And Skrasts doesn't even know he's in Chicago, so we lost both of those guys going into the third.''
Major lololols

So according to that...Niskanen has a broken nose, seven stitches, and a chipped tooth while Skrastins might have a concussion.

Toby Petersen placed on IR. Niskanen, Skrastins both out for Friday's game and probably longer.

http://espn.go.com/blog/DallasStars/...-skrastins-out

Quote:
Toby Petersen is being placed on injured reserve with a leg bruise.

"We're going to keep him out a few days," said coach Marc Crawford. "We don't think it's anything severe."
Quote:
Matt Niskanen and Karlis Skrastins, who collided during the third period warm ups in last night's game, are not expected to play tomorrow against the New York Rangers.

Niskanen has a cut on the palm of his hand, but did not break his nose as initial reports indicated.

Skrastins has a broken nose and a chipped tooth. He was being further evaluated by doctors.

Yeah, I expect the bottom pair to be Fistric-Larsen.

Sounds like Larsen will be up for at least a bit.

Crawford said he doesn't expect either Skrastins or Niskanen to be ready until next Saturday's game versus Atlanta.

Would make sense. A concussion is at least a week, and if Niskanen can't grip a stick because of the cut on his hand, he'll have to wait until the stitches are out.

Couple of updates from practice from Mark
http://espn.go.com/blog/DallasStars/...s-heads-to-ahl
Quote:
Defenseman Karlis Skrastins (head) skated with the team this morning and said he feels good following the skate.

"We're looking more towards Saturday with him, "Stars coach Marc Crawford said. "He'll see the doctors tomorrow and if he's cleared for full contact then he'll go full contact. We'd have three practices to get him ready for Saturday.

Defenseman Matt Niskanen and forward Toby Petersen both skated on their own in Frisco today.

"They're not closer although they are progressing," said Crawford.

Heika had a more in-depth update on Niskanen yesterday.

Quote:
Matt Niskanen (hand) is the farthest. Niskanen suffered a very deep cut in the palm of his left hand when he and Skrastins collided in Chicago, and that creates a couple of problems. Because Niskanen is right-handed, he grips the stick with his left hand for poke checking and for a lot of the very tough work along the boards that defensemen have to do. Because the cut is deep, Niskanen threatens to open up the stitches if he gets too aggressive with it.

Crawford said he doesn't know how long it will take to heal, but it is definitely the most bothersome of the injury issues.
