Tommy Salo signs with MoDo; Press Conference details...

Thought you folks might like to see this.

Probably won't understand it since it's in Swedish, but there are pictures of Tommy wearing the MoDo jersey at the press conference this morning. I'm glad to see he's landed somewhere respectable and he can be happy... quality human being.

NOW GIVE US TOM GILBERT BACK!

Congrats Tommy. We all wish you the best on Modo. You were my one of my favorite Oilers ever and a great human being. You deserve nothing but respect for all you did here over your career. And NO ONE (lol not even Matts) can say that you weren't incredible for us for 3 -4 years.

I hope Sweden works out well for you.

Once again, thank you

"I aim for a Swedish championship with this team"

After first playing in Surahammars IF, then Västerås IK, a ten-year professional career was started in the fall of 1994. After playing for three NHL-teams - New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, and Colorado Avalance - worldclass goalie ( ) Tommy Salo will be moving back to Sweden.

Salo will play for MODO hockey for the next two years.

- Huge for us, definitely one of the biggest ever signings for this team, states Bengt Hedin, the GM.

The first contacts between MODO Hockey and Tommy Salo took place in Feburary.
- We went over and watched a game in Edmonton, and laid the groundwork, in case of a lockout in the NHL, says Hedin. From May, the talks with Salo intensified.

- It feels really good, to have Tommy Salo on board, after all the media speculation, continues Hedin.

- Now we've signed the biggest prospect in Sweden, Alexander Steen (TOR), then the best goalie this country's had over the last 10 seasons, a worldclass hockeyplayer. Of course we're pleased.

Tommy Salo signed the two year deal with Modo Hockey on Thursday.

- I'm not here to rest, I'm here to win the Swedish Championship, among other reasons, that's why I chose MODO, says Salo.
- Modo Hockey was the only alternative, once I decided to end my NHL career.

It was after the recently completed NHL season that Tommy Salo felt it was time to move home.

- The trade to Colorado Avalanche at the end of the season was really a very good hting, he says. If nothing else, I felt that the drive to play hockey was still there. But of course, I had hoped to play more in the playoffs.

Tommy Salo forsees a very interesting time in MODO.

- From what I hear, we'll have a very strong team, and if the NHL lockout becomes reality, it will be a world class league, with plenty of good players, well, the best players, says Salo.

Career moments?
- Winning the Olympics and the Worlds, of course. But even the first two years on the farm, and the first while with the Islanders. It felt great to have established oneself in the NHL.

The World Cup this fall?
- It'll be something very special, all the best players will be there.

Tommy Salo's latest Swedish club was Västerås IK, with whom he won the Regular season in the SEL. The exact league he'll return to.

- I'm very happy that MODO Hockey agreed to play a game in Västerås on the 17th of August, says Salo. For me, a game against my old team feels good.

Proceeds from the game, which will likely also feature Nicklas Lidström, will go to VIK Hockey.

MODO will play the game on their way to training camp in Järna/Sodertälje in week 34, which will finnish with the Championscup in Norrtälje, where MODO will play three games in three days, 20th to 22nd August.

Tommy Salo will debut in the MODO nets versus the Finnish team Ässät, at Kempehallen on August 15th.

It looks like they were having the press conference at a sports bar.

I think Salo co-owns a bar in Sweden with countryman Niclaus Lidstrom. Maybe it was held there?

Didnt Bertuzzi, Forsberg and Naslund say they'd play for MoDo if there was aa lock out next season? Or was that Frolunda?

Scary.

Not any more, it didn´t go too well.

I was listening to Bengt Hedin, the GM of MoDo, when he spoke to the press.
He said that this is the best signing - so far...

Kent Forsberg said to the media afterwards that Peter will make a decision
after July 1.

well, I'm not sure I'd say that. I'd say he had 2 really good years, 1 average year, 1 average AT BEST year, and 1 bad year.

and with Tommy's signing the SEL just became more attractive for forwards should the lockout happen

Some other news, just heard today Misha Joukov is leaving SEL team HV71 for Russia. He will play for AK Bars Kazan next season just hope he will get some icetime there so his progress can continue. Didn't have that great of a season this year.
