There's no restriction on signing prospects rights? Friesen turns 20 next year so if we don't sign him before January 1st then he won't have his contract slide next year.

If I got this right that means Friesen should get a slide year in Manitoba next year, unless he plays as an overager. Although here's what confuses me. Here are the rules from the CBA...

Quote:
9.1(d)(i)

In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC
with a Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season under that
SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry Level System shall be
extended for a period of one (1) year, except that this automatic extension will not apply
to a Player who is 19 according to Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September
16 and December 31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club
expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an additional year
in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC, with the exception of Signing
Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary, games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses,
shall be extended; provided, however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be
extended in all circumstances.

Age of Players. As used in this Article, "age," including "First SPC Signing
Age," means a Player's age on September 15 of the calendar year in which he signs an
SPC, regardless of his actual age on the date he signs such SPC.
Quote:
10.2

As used in this Section 10.2, "age," including "First SPC
Signing Age" means a Player's age on September 15 of the calendar year
in which he signs an SPC regardless of his actual age on the date he signs
such SPC.

10.2(a)

For the purposes of this Section 10.2(a), a Player aged 18 or 19
earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more
NHL Games in a given NHL Season, and a Player aged 20 or older
(or who turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 of the
year in which he signs his first SPC) earns a year of professional
experience by playing ten (10) or more Professional Games under
an SPC in a given League Year.
So his SPC does slide but he still would get a year of professional experience (if he plays in Manitoba)

I see that Dan Gendur was released from the Moose camp:

Moose Trim Roster by 15

I assume that he is still on his Canucks contract - probably one that Gillis wishes he didn't have.

Not like he was in any way responsible for drafting him. Kind of sad that he was actually one of the better picks that draft year at one point (tells you the "quality" of prospects that draft year for us).

I feel just spiteful enough because someone just stole Markstrom right before me in my FHL draft.

Vancouver Canucks 2007 draft
Rnd Pick Overall Team Player Pos Country Ht Wt Amateur League Amateur Team
1 25 25 VAN Patrick White C USA 6' 1" 190 USHL Tri-City
2 3 33 VAN Taylor Ellington D CAN 6' 0" 200 WHL Everett
5 24 145 VAN Charles-Antoine Messier C CAN 5' 10" 176 QMJHL Baie Comeau

6 25 176 VAN Taylor Matson C USA 5' 10" 165 USHL Des Moines
7 25 206 VAN Dan Gendur R CAN 5' 11" 195 WHL Everett

I don't expect one draftee to play a single NHL game.

On to a more promising draft...

Polasek played today - -1 in a 6-1 loss to Hannay's team, who is still sitting out with a suspension. One more game left on his suspension. Here is the video of the punch if anyone has not seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAwU-DKwZ3Y

That wasn't a sucker punch really. The guy should have been expecting a response after making a hit like that.

The hit was clean. Hannay went overboard.

Taylor Ellington assigned to Victoria Salmon Kings by the Manitoba Moose today.

I think I can speak for everyone just how big of a shock this is.

Oh, no points for Anton Rodin today in a 4-2 win (Jarnkrok with 2 goals)

Ellington may have trouble hanging on to a spot with the Salmon Kings. Cuts still need to made by the Moose and have to wonder if some players the Kings already have, like Fredhiem, aren't a lot better than Ellington.

Next stop for good ole Taylor might be a Beer League team at 8 Rinks.

Salmon Kings could be quite the benefactors of quite a deep young Moose team this year.

I'm crying that he's taking up one of the 50 contract spots for the next two seasons. (forget the *high* 2nd round pick we wasted - sure these type of picks have a fair bit of risk but when they have so little upside potential - it's becomes even more a gamble; save these type of selections until *later* on in the draft)

Thus far, good news on the swede front. Rodin has an assist so far in his game and today Andersson is actually playing. Although he was on the roster last game, he did not play at all - probably benched or something. Today he was slotted in the 3rd pairing. I'll update the post with TOI numbers once the games finish, unless anyone beats me to it.

I cringed every time i see Jarnkrok - why? Pure Jealousy. He got another goal today. He is 5-2-7 in 8 games.

For reference, Backstrom in his post-draft season was 12-28-40 in 45 games.

Edit: Rodin's TOI: 13:57, Andersson ended the day with 14:06 TOI and 2 PIMs.

And my interest in Tommernes [Frolunda] grows - 26:00 TOI - leading both team's TOI, but then again they did play 2 overtimes, which makes Andersson's TOI very marginal.

Although i've been warned that the WW forums are not the greatest, here is a blurb from their GDT:
Quote:
Peter Anderson needs to BHC. He was absolutely miserable today. Go wrong in all situations. Klingberg can play until Peter is in the form.
BHC is Boras. Also, any swedes know what/who "Honken" is? I keep getting this translation and can't understand what it means or who this is on the team?

Ellington was on an allstar team last year so i imagine he could make the team this year. I am wondering if Conauton will make the Moose this year? If not does he play with the Giants or the Salmon Kings. How about Sauve can he return to junior? Tanev does not have any options, as well as i think he is the best of the three and should play in Manitioba. Manitoba is stacked the Salmon Kings should have a good team as a result.

Is that Henrik Tommernes? I thought he seems like a young D-man with some potential; how come he wasn't drafted? Was he ranked really low or something for the 2009 draft?

And I really hope Peter Andersson gets his game back in shape again - this is a good opportunity for him to shine and get more ice time given the injury situation on D with his team. I almost thought you were talking about Jonas Andersson too since that guy was still fresh in the news, until I realized this was the prospect thread after all.

There really is a logjam on D in the system right now so guys like Ellington and possibly even Connauton, Tanev and Sauve could start the year in the ECHL. Btw I was also wondering if you can still return overage players back to juniors after you assign them to your farm team... not that I'm advocating that course of action.

You can keep your dmen, just give us Shantz and we will be happy. Also with Pope coming down the SKs will do great in the ECHL.

The Moose sometimes treat the ECHL Victoria Salmon Kings as a bad place to send their players, but we don't need alot from the Moose to win games. But a little repect would be nice.

I asked about that during the Province chat this afternoon. Gallagher said Connauton is definitely staying with the Moose, and is actually pretty high up on the callup priority list for the Canucks. Didn't say anything about Sauve. He could be sent back to junior, but if it hasn't been done yet it seems unlikely.
