Just wanna say congrats to Ducks fans on gettin' Ryan locked up. Hell of a player with awesome upside (I know, stating the obvious). Love the way the future of your team is shaping up.

So yea, I guess this means Bobby ain't heading to the Leafs for Kaberle, eh?

Congrats to the Ducks. I'm a bit of a Ducks fan as I've had Perry in my keeper pool and currently have Getz. I think this is a fair deal for the team and for Ryan. Go out there and get it done now silver. Except against the Habs.

The real reason Bobby signed!

Quote:
Bobby Ryan ultimately revealed the real reason why he agreed on the five-year, $25.5-million contract that he signed on Tuesday to potentially keep him in a Ducks uniform until 2015.
Ryan needed to do so in order to be with the team for its annual golf tournament on Wednesday.
“Man, that’s a free round of golf,” he joked about the get-together at Irvine’s Oak Creek Golf Club. “I didn’t want to give that up.”

I felt a lot better about doing a five year deal when I figured out what direction [Getzlaf and Perry] were headed in the future.

Watching that video, it doesn't quite add up. It seems like a major sticking point was the structure of the deal, Bobby wanting the money straight across and Murray clearly wanting to backload it. The question is, why? According to my calculations, we're still quite shy of the year's budget. Even if Mara signed for like $1.5 million(highly unlikely), we'd still be under budget by around $2.5-5 million. Sure, being under budget is great, but to be a deal breaker, something's gotta be up.

Its perfectly reasonable to expect that Ryan was ok with the original offer, but delayed to give teams time to think about giving him an offer sheet.

It seems logical to think that a player would get a reasonable offer, but given the history of offer sheets given to players like him, maybe some team would throw 7 mil at him.

That didn't happen, "OK" I will just take the offer with a little bonus to make it seem like we negotiated.

Neal signed for 2.875 for 2 years. I wonder what Bobby might have gotten for a 2 year deal. Shouldn't really be that much more than Neal.

Then you have to wonder what he would have commanded in a subsequent 3 year deal, and which 5-year structure would be best.

I was getting texts from the guys calling me “Silver” and then it finally aired and it just kind of took off. As long it eventually turns into “Silver” because that’s the color of the Stanley Cup.

I went to that, almost made a joke about Bobby wearing a Blue polo. Obviously wanted to get traded to the Leafs.

That Q&A certainly confirmed one thing for me, the whole debacle was his agent's doing. Can't blame the guy for doing his job, but definitely clears up any speculation that Bobby was the second coming of Kariya in terms of greed, or whatever some other posters thought.
