Petition to Re-sign Mike Mottau

Lou needs to sign the guy. A great bottom pairing defenseman, he will be cheap, and he gives it his all every night.

Whose with me?! Petition Lou to re-sign Mike Mottau

I'll agree with you that he did try his best, but I still don't want him back here.

Bottom line is Mottau is not Lou's priority right now, and he probably won't be until at least $3 million in salary is moved. Even then I dont see Lou bringing back Mike when we can have a young rookie such as Corrente, Toarmina, Eckford or even Urbom, crack the lineup to open the season.

He will be back, I still have a feeling Lou will sign him after this cap situation is over.

As long as he doesn't play top pairing minutes I'm fine with him

If we trade a D....

ONLY if he played bottom pairing minutes.

The only reason people dont like him is because he was misused. The rookies wont be able handle as much ice time is Mottau can. We need Mottau moreso than we need Fraser or Salmela or any of the rookies.

I would take any one of our top 5 defensive prospects on our bottom pairing over Mike Mottau. But maybe thats just me. Aside from a good first pass (and even that is replaceable) he is nothing more than a band aid AHL D Man.

He had ZERO business skating the amount of ice time he was.

I'm fine with bringing back Mottau as long as he is kept in strictly a bottom pairing role. Since he almost certainly won't be, forget it.

Mottau's this year's Tommy Albelin, he's just randomly hanging around waiting for 'something' to happen.

If none of the prospects impress or aren't able to perform well in the NHL, I'd sign him to rotate him in and out of the 6th defenseman spot with limited minutes.

If any of our defense prospects are NHL ready and able to hold their own, I'm against re-signing Mottau at all.

Mottau could be insurance for any Mr. Octobers of the Voros variety. I'm hoping MacLean has seen enough of the young players at Lowell and the staff knows whether Corrente is ready to play D in the NHL or continues to be a fringe Lemaire wing, to know if Motts should return. I know some on the Phoenix board were eyeing him for last year's play and pay.

I'd agree with this, if any of our prospects show that they are ready for the bottom pairing, don't bother. But keeping Mottau around as veteran depth for the playoffs can't hurt, unless we don't have the cap space for it.

well its not like any of his playoff experience is worth anything, and while he clearly is old, he hasn't played enough NHL games for me to consider him a "veteran."

We don't need Mottau for anything. Fraser, Salmela or just about any rookie could play the bottom pairing minutes that Mottau would be getting if he's not being "misused."

258 NHL games alone, plus his time in the A doesn't really make him a rookie either. He's basically a veteran. A veteran we don't need.
