While I am happy that we made it all the way to number 5, Detroit at 4 is a bit of a reach. Not saying they won't be one of the top teams again, just that they are not only older but also minus one stay at home minute eating Dman and their team leader looked to have lost a little bit last season. Now, he can afford to lose a little bit and more and will still be one of the all time greats but, for TSN to rank them so highly seems a bit of a reach to me.

I disagree. I think they are top 2-3, and one of the main challengers for the stanley cup. Last season was an injury filled season, coming off two finals in a row, and three conference finals in a row. A more experienced Howard, backup Osgood, Lidstrom and co, and the best forward depth i the league along with two of the best 200ft players in the league and three of the best playoff forwards around, I'd say they're in pretty good shape going in to, for them atleast, slow-motion season waiting for the games that matters strating April.

They will be their usual elite caliber team but I still think that for them, they haven't done enough to keep up this offseason. I guess we will see.

I was looking for the habs thread to find the URL and I found yours lol. Noticed the poll pretty jokes grats to everyone who pegged the kings top 5, I'd have to agree I would've guess around 5-7. Grats on the ranking hope to see you in the finals

TSN aligned our teams on the list conspiracy!?

Something we should keep in mind...

Los Angeles Under DL's Tenure:
06-07 68pts
07-08 71pts
08-09 79pts
09-10 101pts
10-11 ???

San Jose Under DL's Tenure:
96-97 62pts
97-98 78pts
98-99 80pts
99-00 87pts
00-01 95pts
01-02 99pts

See the trend? Lombardi teams are known for steady incremental season-to-season improvement. Under DL, the Sharks improved their overall point total 6 straight seasons. Dean is only the 2nd GM in NHL history to achieve that feat. Hall of fame gm Bill Torrey, who managed the Islanders in the 80's, is the other.

So when you consider the aforementioned, and the fact that the Kings were 8th overall last year, it actually makes TSN's 5th overall prediction seem pretty realistic.

Good analysis-also highlights why DL thought the team arrived a year ahead of schedule--based on SJ, the Kings should have been about a 90-pt team last year, but the season just went better. Not a problem, but it explains the surprise.

So if this holds up there are 4 of the top 5 teams in our confrence, and it would behoove us to win the division to avoid playing any of the top four in the opening round......piece of cake

I doubt any cares, but the final rankings are in. Caps at #1, Vancouver at #2.

Well well well ...

http://espn.go.com/nhl/powerrankings

ESPN has us at #5 ALSO

has Buccigross, LeBrun & Melrose thinking we win the Pacific, w Buccigross thinking we go on to win the WEST and Play Philly for the cup

also 4 of their 6 "experts" pick Doughty to win the Norris this season

while Buccigross & Melrose have Terry Murray as Coach of the year

When's the last time ESPN gave the Kings that much love ?
