Of course. DW makes padding the roster with mediocre Dmen his top priority every year.

Seems unnecessary to me, Lilja is pretty much Wallin.

Like most PTO's, there's not much to lose in extending the tryout. Its not an upgrade in the 5:5 defensive corps at all and doesn't help in puck movment. He hasn't skated more than #5/#6 minutes in quite some time. But TMac clearly had some influence in extending a tryout and I suspect as a consequence, has a plan on how to use him. I suspect he will get a contract subject to health to start the season unless someone out of the system has a monster camp and surprises.

Outside of that remote possibility, it still appears the Sharks will ask Vlasic to take on more of a 2-way role this year, because whether he's paired with Lilja (presuming he's extended) or Wallin, neither are good out of their own end.

What it does do is drop Leach out of the top-7 altogether which is not an issue either way. We will have a lot of depth at least and another healthy body that can provide injury insurance and clear the net for our young goalies isn't the worst thing to have.

Boyle-Murray
Wallin[Lilja]-Vlasic
Demers-Huskins

And while I agree I am a Nolan fan .... this would also leave enough cap space to offer Nolan a contract or tryout as well.

DW made it pretty clear it planned on Demer's being paired with Vlasic from a recent interview.

I don't find this guy to be even mediocre. To think the Wings dumped Kyle Quincey for nothing so they could keep Lilja at $1.25m and Chelios (who hardly played after that point) two years ago. I'm just glad the Wings have moved on-- finally.

(He's a good teammate, but outside the PK, he's a defensive liability. His significant concussion history is also an unfortunate consideration.)

I'd be ok with him replacing huskins on the bottom pair, free up some cap space if huskins gets traded

The second coming of the Savior is here! (First coming was Nolan Schaefer, of course)

I don't want Lilja, but on a try-out I can live with it. After all, there is no risk but could be decent upside, theoretically.

On a hopefully more serious note, on a PTO you can play some regular season NHL games, correct? Maybe Lilja, on a PTO, can play the first two back home in Sweden and then call it a career?

Oh boy, a guy who managed to be a minus player for the Detroit Red Wings 3 out of the last 4 seasons.

wow. thats good to know. Demers must have had another good offseason.

Anyone else see the pattern DW is using with the defense? Big bodies, Stanley Cup experience...

No, Jeff Norton was the first, second, and third comings.

I totally agree with you though. No risk, moderate reward.

This. If we do end up trading Huskins and sign Lilja for cheap (i.e., league minimum) for 1 year, I'm fine w/ that. Rather it be Wallins b/c he and Lilja are closer/more redundant

Publicity stunt for games in Sweden?

I thought Dandenault played well in his tryout last year and he wasn't signed.
