Price is ready to play 82 games...

Nice article on Cybepresse by Richard Labbé.

Two key point :

-Gomez ask the fan to support Carey Price.

-Price said that he was ready for the season and when a reporter ask him if he was ready to play 60 match he aswered that he was was ready to play all the games if necessary.

Only 82 games? So he doesn't want to make or play in the playoffs? We traded the wrong goalie.

Come on, cut the guy some slack... an 81-1 record is fine with me.

Realistically I expect him to start 79 games.

He's expecting his backup to get 16 regular-season games in case he needs a breather.

If Price can play 60 solid games, that would be already super.

A 38 wins 22 losses (for 76 points) with an 2.50 average and a .915 ratio, would be great.

If Auld can play .500 and add 20-22 points, it's a sure playoffs berth

He doesn't expect us to make the playoffs and he doesn't want to play in the pre-season. He's not a team guy.

I'm expecting 60-70 games from Price. He should never play any back to back games to risk injury.

This is a good sign boys. Carey doesn't look drunk or stoned. Lets hope he carries this on.

Don't set your expectations too high. The save percentage is fine, but the Habs allow way too many shots so he'd end up with a GAA more around 2.70, 2.75. The team also isn't good enough to get that record (a 104 point pace!!!), especially with merely excellent goaltending.

i see your point. But also everything is situational you can't decide before a season that he wont play back to back.

Teams have regularly come out and said this about their #1 goalies at the beginning of the year.

Last season our point pace with Markov in the line up was 103pts if I remember correctly.

I don't think we're as far off as you think. I do know though just how much you dislike Martin

Anyways, I guess we will see. Only about 3 weeks away!

True, but my problem is that the math just doesn't add up.

Obviously you can't have 32 shots a game and .915 save percentage and a 2.50 GAA, that's just mathematically impossible. The Habs would have to cut down their shots against to 29.4. That's a tall order for a team that's been bleeding shots for years; that's how many shots per game Detroit allowed, and they were 9th-best in the league.

Only 7 goalies were credited with 38 or more wins last season, they were all on good teams, and not one of them played less than 68 games. Howard had 37 in 63, but he plays for the Red Wings. What I mean by this is, even if the Habs end up being a great team, and Price is in nets for 60 games, he'd be exceedingly unlikely to see 38 wins. He'd need to play around 70 games to get them, and even then, the Habs would need to be a Cup contender.

TSN has a really neat news report on Price's rodeo career:

My prediction:
Price is going to play a very respectable 24-13-2 2.65 .918

but Auld will have an amazing, one-of-a-kind, what-did-he-eat-to-play-like-that 33-9-2 2.43 .926, and will lead our team to victory into the Gaulden age.

Since 2006, it's 61,2% with him -193-115-41- (100 points average), and 38,9% without him -19-35-7- (64 points average).
