The Thrashers prospect will be out indefinitely after suffering a broken right foot during rookie camp. According to the team, surgery will not be required.

I hope they just put him in the AHL all season. After this injury and his suspension, he will have missed too much time to jump to the NHL.

Does this open a door for another prospect? Or a trade? (Zubrus?)

Apparently, Aliu was very impressive in rookie camp. He has that same physical ability that Dudley likes about Cormier. I wonder if this increases his chance of making the roster. Obviously, he's not a center, but maybe?

Maybe Burmistrov will get more of a look too.

Bad luck for Cormier, and I feel like a horrible person to admit that it opens up a spot for one of the swedish rookies I'm most look forward to be following the coming season: Fredrik Pettersson. I think he's the perfect replacement for Armstrong. At the NHL level I expect him to skate hard, play with a lot of energy, solid two-way play and score a goal here and there.

Pettersson was the talk of the rookie camp with his play, he was likely going to make the team either way.

really sucks, but breaking your foot to block a shot in a petty scrimmage game in rookie camp immediately moves him to the top of the list of players who are dedicated on the ice and will always play hard.

Wow this sucks. They were down 4-1 in the last few minutes of the game when he blocked the shot.

Looks like Burmistrov will get that 9 game look now.

Good to hear it's because it on injury and not attitude. When I saw the title I thought he did something stupid.

He's been on tip-top behavior since he's arrived here, and the other rookies have taken a liking to him. Burmistrov rooms with him and seems to be under Cormier's wing.

It's a shame, because I think he really could have made the team outright. He'll still have a chance I suppose as a call-up or something, but it still is a day-ruiner for him.

i'll bet burmistrov makes the team as the third liner and slater gets moved down a line.

or they could just have thorburn play center and give his spot to someone like pettersson.

To all the "visitors" that felt the need to bash Cormier, I say:

If the guy's squirmin' around after getting hit hadn't made for such good Youtube viewing, it wouldn't even be an issue. How many times did you watch it? Why did you even go to see it in the first place?
How about Wayne Maki almost killing Ted Green?
Eddie Shore on Ace Bailey?
How about Bertuzzi?
How about every defensive football player in the NFL?
Colby Armstrong?
Chris Pronger?
Scott Stevens?
Ovechkin?
Crosby nut-punching Valabik
Guys that slew-foot opponents?
Hipcheckers?
NBA players that undercut or elbow opponents with NO protection whatsoever?
Pitchers that throw BB's at batters' heads?
Matt Cooke?

How about taking it off the sports pages.....how about drunk drivers and road ragers? Shouldn't they all be in jail and never allowed to work again??????

Just shut up with the self righteousness if you are "just visiting" this thread and don't normally post here.

How about all them? I think all those actions suck and should be penalized. You forgot Perezhogan(sp) baseball batting stafford's head then fleeing home to russia.

All despicable acts just like Cormier's. Just because you can point to someone else doing it doesn't lessen the act.

Pettersson is going to be good, the big question is do they send him to Chicago first to get him used to playing 80+ games

Considering how good he has looked, the big answer to the big question better be "Hell, no"

Yes, and Cormier served his penalty and should now be clear to resume his chosen career. Just like any other guilty party. No one is "lessening the act" just telling every Tom, Dick, and Judy to go blow. It's done, and the cherry on top will be when the court either gives probation or dismisses the case officially on Monday.

Doesn't mean I have to forgive him at all. Can you forgive Michael Vick?? Never for me
