Rostislav Olesz: Playing With an Edge?

Very interesting Olesz article by GR.

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/flapa...h-an-edge.html

Quote:
When the subject Panthers forward Rostislav Olesz comes up, coach Pete DeBoer's attitude almost immediately changes.

For Olesz, that's not a good thing.

“All the conversations between me and Rusty are over,'' DeBoer said after Saturday's opening of training camp. “We've talked it to death. It's 'Show-Me' time."

Another year, another dream of a breakout season for Olesz. Sigh.

Most interesting part of the article for me was this snippet...

"When Olesz's game dropped off the following season, players inside the locker room took umbrage at how much he was making."

I said this before but this really is the do-or-die yr for Olesz. In fact, I'd say this may be a do-or-die camp for him too as he could just as easily end up in the AHL at this point (no one will claim him on waivers).

If he struggles again and cant be traded, he's going to be bought out for sure next summer. He could still be valuable as a 3rd liner this season putting up similar numbers to last yr but no team will trade for him with those kinda stats and that contract.

it's interesting that GR had a report on this. Maybe it finally sunk in for Olesz? Who knows we've heard it before, but if Olesz came out and scored 20 and add 20-25 assists that'd be a huge help to this team. As always it's "ifs".

I like the fact that GR said he's playing with an "edge". Olesz really only did that in spurts, and that was seasons ago. If he got back to that type of game, he'd be dominant.

Olezs can, but won't, that why he gets most the blame. If he couldn't, not just wouldn't, JM would get most of the blame.

I agree with Coolburn. If Olesz can't score at least 20 goals next year, then he needs to be bought out. We've given him more than enough chances and he has failed to produce. If he can't produce this season, then we need to move on and give his roster spot to someone else.

He'll definitely be bought out next summer if he doesn't produce like he's capable of. If the Panthers wait beyond next summer, his buyout price gets way higher. Next summer is the lowest point it's ever going to be. Hopefully Olesz knows this as well.

EHHHH... olesz to me is just a waste of valuable space.. i wouldn't mind giving that space to repik or mccardle.. give them experience..

But, since we got em might as well give him a shot..ehh..?

ughh...

remember how deboer... put olesz.. in basically every frekin shootout we had..(at least the majority of them) and you knew what he did?..

backhand...every time..

times infinity..

to the exponent of the diameter of a tit on a massive blackhole..

he missed like 90% of those shootouts.. i remember the announcers calling him.. "one move rusty"... in disgust...

OUR OWN ANNOUCERS DAMMIT!

Like you guys stated, he will probably be bought out this upcoming summer..and good riddance... i think jack gave him a huge contract because he did that hulk hogan ear thing after making a goal once and the crowd went wild.. he thought we had a freakin legend on our hands... or some visual appeal that we can use over and over in our video commercials on various sport networks....

ughh..

after taking a deep breath in..i continued reading the article.. i found out i couldn't stop myself for feeling bad for the guy... his contract is wayy to big and hes out for blood..you can help but be frustrated with his play and point out only the negative...hopefully he turns the other cheek..

i say goodluck to him..

godspeed man.. GODSPEED..!

This coming offseason is the last one where Olesz can be bought out for 1/3 instead of 2/3, so this is definitely his make or break season as a panther.

Pretty sure only Booth and Stillers are only forwards with higher cap hits.

he'll have a great season, we'll finish in 25th place putting us just outside the elite draft talent and we wont buy him out because he "finally turned the corner" then he'll regress and be too expensive to be buy out because we are the florida panthers.

Olesz can't. He's eurotrash and shouldn't even be able to pull an NHL sweater over his head. They both get the blame.

I'm still not willing to write him off yet. If he can't put it together this season, fine, he will be a lost cause.

Uhh no....
He's actually almost always a great bottom 6 line guy but the problem with him is he gets paid as if he's a top 6 player. I understand the frustration and how it was pathetic when he went through his slump, but "eurotrash" and not being an NHLer are completely ignorant comments when talking about him.

I'm not expecting much from Olesz this year and if he does well it will be an unexpected surprise.

Agree 100%. If he made $1+ million less, he would be a superb bottom six guy.

But, he's not. So, as long as he's getting paid what he's currently getting paid then i will not change my opinion.

Yea, but your comments about him are unwarranted, and as Prule96 said, ignorant. If you want to say that he is overpaid, then I dont think you will find anyone that disagrees with you. But when you say he is "eurotrash" and doesnt belong in this league is just nonsense.

im going to have to disagree. i left with about 13 minutes left in the game to get the autographs, but before that every time he had the puck he looked dangerous to me.

I dont know about that...he didnt seem to make enough positive plays to me. Just the same Olesz from what I saw (he'll tease you with one good shift and the rest mediocre)

IMO, olesz is eurotrash and he is overpaid.

You say he is a solid bottom-six player. Ok, if he is such a solid asset to a team, then how come we can get rid of him? No, and don't say we haven't because olesz has been on the block before and he will be on there again in the near future.
