Mike Ribeiro is immensely talented and was not given a fair shake by the fans or the organization - in my opinion. The Nieuwendyk regime in Dallas is committing the same mistake if they intend to shop him around.
Right now, I'd say Scott Gomez, although most of the hate comes from his contract and not from the player himself. Other than that, I always liked Price, and felt that the Halak trade was justified.
If we go back in time, there are quite a few players I liked that weren't particularly popular, Russ Courtnall, Malakhov, Yanic Perreault. And I don't understand what Kostopoulos and most of all Koivu do on some lists. Saku was well respected.
On these boards all players are hated at some point. Some for e longer than others. Just watch, Subban goes into a slump people will start trashing him. Mayrbe not outright hating but trashing. The three that come to mind most for me are 1- Janne Niiniima, he was hated because some people thought Gainey should've or could've gotten a real star for Ribeiro for some reason. 2- Pierre Dagenais. I think he was basically hated because he was slow and 3- Mathieu Dandenault- people expected him to be something he wasn't because he won some cups. But he gave it his all every night and was a solid performer.
Going a long way back: Pierre Larouche. More recently: Riberio, a gifted player never allowed to use his gifts, Akost, a truly gifted player being forced square-scoring peg into round-all-purpose hole, and , yes, Grabowski, who has value. Add Lats, too, who demanded patience and got perverse mis-direction.
I'll add Francis Bouillon to the list. He struggled at times but wasn't as bad as people around here said. And the guy absolutely played his heart out every night, and out-hustled players that had six inches on him.
