McCreary and Walkom, who reffed Game 5, will probably ref Game 6 instead of Fraser and Watson, who reffed Game 4.

I guess their Game Management wasn't up to the standards the NHL wants.

i think that's just wrong. The NHL shows once again it does not have balls and wants refs to call NOTHING.

I think it more from the fan reaction to the last game than the on ice performance of the refs.

Further characterizing the NHL front office's complete and utter lack of testicular fortitude. What a joke.

So now fans can dictate the referee assignments? Yay! I want the next Canucks game to be ref-ed by a rhino.

Good.

Fraser is the last person I want to see officiating a game where the Stanley Cup is one the line.

While I can't stand Kerry Fraser, this is ridiculous.

What is the reasoning exactly? Do they feel the refs screwed up or that they're not up to the job? Well, if they're supposed to be the best in the league, stick to them!

The only way this makes any sense is if Fraser feared that the fans would be unruly... Has this ever happened before?

Apparently a very classy minority of Flames fans sent a bevy of death threats in and the league decided security concerns were too high to allow Fraser's crew to work game six.

Real nice.

I'll put it in the Calgary Conspiracy file, after this series is over I'm going to right the tales of two cities book.

I call bull. Nothing's been reported like that over here or in any news outlet. I've never heard of anything even close to that story, they were just afraid of dealing with the backlash from fans (the Fraser sucks chant, the pelting with garbage - both rather juvenile maneuvres, but FAR from death threats).

This decision has nothing to do with the quality of officiating in Game 4. It has everything to do with negative media attention and the personal safety of Fraser and Watson.

Personally, I think the Flames should have been fined for the actions of the fans who pelted them with debris and beer after Game 4.

The only reason Calgary fans think the officiating was bad in Game 4 is because the only goal of the game was scored on the two-man advantage that Calgary got themselves into.

If Tampa Bay wins Game 6, I think it is likely that Fraser and Watson will work Game 7. I cannot see the NHL having officials work three consecutive games in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Precisely. Besides, as the best ref in the NHL, Mcreary should be refereeing every single finals game.

I see no reason not to believe it. I have absolutely no doubt that a few idiots made death threats.

I have no doubts that every single team who has ever been in such an important position has had a few idiots make similar death threats.

That said, fan sentiment in this town is still very angry with Fraser. Looking at last nights game, players were being tackled all over the place by both teams. Since we all know it will happen in game six, and that the officials will continue to ignore it (except, inexplicably, in the first minute of the third period) every call Fraser would ignore would only serve to ignite the crowd.

The NHL made it's bed in game four. It is living with the consequences.

Only because Frasier called one team under one rulebook, and the other on another rulebook. Blame Calgary all you want, the officials **** up by ignoring two blatant Tampa infractions on the same play.

You should know better than that!. It would be quite unfair to have one of Bertuzzi's relatives ref the game.

Extremely naive of you IMO.

There are a lot of sick people in the world... and believe it or not a handful are probably Flames fans.

Me too. I hope he's pissed off and he retires without having the chance to ref a game with his son (who's currently in the AHL).

But beware people.. his son is coming... god another 20-30 years of suffering

The funny thing is now fans know they can dictate who will be reffing their games. Expect the Philly fans to shower McCreary in coke after g his totally biased calling of a game (they wouldnt waste the beer )in the next series he refs the Flyers because they know if they do that, he wont be back in the next game.

Gutless decision by the NHL, but then again, whats new?
