i'm sort of surprised the demand this thread seems to imply for nugget nectar. it's been out for like 7 years, and i don't remember it ever being difficult to obtain.
I have tried multiple beer distributors and multiple restaurants. Only managed to have it one time, and that was literally by stalking the twitter feeds of local bars. Every bar that I know to have had it on draught has run out within 1 day of tapping the keg, or has had multiple kegs in the case of Mad Mex, and they were still running out in like 36 hours.

I wonder how much of the absurd demand is our own doing. This is a popular internet forum. The Penguins are extremely popular in Pittsburgh. Beer is popular in Pittsburgh. Have we screwed ourselves? Are there HF lurkers swooping in and cleaning out all of the Nugget Nectar shipments into southwestern PA?

I blame Dock Ellis.

Seriously though, it sounds like the local distributor was shorted and as a result everyone else got way less than they ordered. Also sounds like a lot of people are expecting/hoping to get more in tomorrow.

I work towards Uniontown, not exactly a mecca of high end tastes but I called one place yesterday on my way home and they didn't know what NN was but they were holding two cases for someone that didn't pick them up yet. He said I can have them if he hasn't picked them up by this afternoon.

It seems like the local distributor is getting shorted badly on a lot of season and specialty brews.

This happened last fall with pumpkin beers as well, from what I saw. There were practically no cases of Dogfishhead Punkin in the local area, and very few cases of pumpkin beer in general. The same sort of thing happened with the Christmas beers. I wonder if the local distributor is just not catching on to the fact that Pittsburgh has finally had its craft beer renaissance.

According to their website, you are correct. They also apparently distribute Bells, which had that famous shortage of HopSlam a couple years ago that caused several local bar owners to drive to Philly to pick up kegs. Wasn't it something like our local master distributor was forced to choose between cases or kegs of it, and they chose cases?

I would agree about the whole shortage thing. I couldn't find Great Lakes Christmas Ale anywhere at Christmas when it was everywhere years prior.

I had spoken with a guy at the trivia pub/bottle shop in Moon when they were closing, and he said that he felt a lot of fall/Christmas beers were released early and no additional shipments were ordered by the distributors.

And the guy picked them up last night. FML.

Would appreciate a heads up if anyone finds any more cases!

I am drinking a Nugget Nectar as I type this.

My desperate *** broke down and spent $23 on a six pack from the Sharp Edge. Sounds more and more like everyone hoping to get more in really doesn't know for sure if it's happening.

You're lucky I didn't find any more... haha. I called West Liberty back this week because they claimed they'd be getting more in when I got my cases there and I more or less got laughed off the phone. I had someone tell me they ship it based off who does the most Troges business, which leads me to believe that Philly and NYC get a lot of it. IDK if Mad Mex in SH has it still, worth a shot for $5 for 22 oz though.

I wish they'd just produce it year long, but that might ruin the whole price/demand thing...

I've been wanting to try NN for awhile now, given everything that I've read about it on here and Beer Advocate. My distributor got some cases in yesterday, and I picked a case up 30 minutes ago for $55...just poured a somewhat cold bottle of it. I'm in love.

$55!! Ouch. It was like $35 a couple years ago. Demand must be driving prices up.

Glad you loved it though!

It really shouldn't be more than 41-42 after tax, unless they're taking liberties.

Ended up at the Sharp Edge in the South Hills tonight, they just tapped their last barrel so I was in luck. Got my fix in after going crazy for a few days. Had another just now when I got home. There's so much NN hype but it is truly great.

I paid $ 50 a case, think it was around $ 45 last year if my memory serves me correctly.

I'm hearing there's 120MIN IPA in State College. I guess it's $9 per bottle. That's a hefty price but I gotta try that. Getting two bottles right after work. I'll probably be falling on my wallet (what's left of it) all night tonight.

Stuff is good, just a bit over the top IMO. It's like hop syrup.

I've been picking up cases of Sierra Nevada Torpedo for the last little bit, very standard IPA. Definitely recommend it for anyone who likes hoppier brews.

I know I may have over payed for NN, but I'm ok with it. I literally called every day to find out when it was coming in and they treated me well.

Currently enjoying it while this case lasts.

I should have bought out the distributor.

I must have been getting lucky in the past. It was always in the 36-39 range before tax.

Strange coincidence. I just tried Nugget Nectar for the first time last night. My buddy works in sales for a local distributor here in Syracuse and reccomended it a while back. I was in a bar last weekend and saw it on their beer menu and when I ordered they said the just kicked the keg and it was the last one they had. I went to a local store that has a ton of craft beers and got the last six pack they had. The stuff is like gold. I also tried Lagunitas hop stoopid ale which was very good but Lagunitas maximus is probably one of my favorite beers of all time. Very potent and hoppy.

I have a 22oz of Hopworks Secession CDA and a 22oz of Ninkasi Imperiale Stout in my fridge right now.

Pens vs. Bruins is a 9:30 start for me. Too early for a beer?

Just to add to the discussion, I think I paid 45 or 48 for my case of NN, which I bought at McBroom's, who are usually a bit higher. Places charging over 50 bucks are just taking advantage of the crazy demand. I'm pretty sure it's only 42 at the brewery unless they have jacked up prices as well.

Also, both times I've gone to Save Mor to look for it, they've smiled/laughed when I asked, and said they don't know if they are going to get more.

Lot's of good beers mentioned here.
In honor of Geno's season let me tell you about a couple great vodka's.
Beluga http://vodka-beluga.com/index.php/index/classic
And Russian Standard Gold or Platinum http://www.russianstandard.com/premi...nds/rs_brands/
Keep the bottle in the freezer and drink it straight.

I haven't been back to Pittsburgh for a while but I understand there's a Tilted Kilt on the North side now to go along with a Hofbräuhaus on the South side. You lucky guys.I got to make a trip back.
