The place in Apex is called the Beer Dispensary. I shop at Sam's Quik Shop in Durham at least once a week. By far the biggest selection and most reasonable prices for craft beer in the Triangle area. The place in Apex is starting out kind of small. I will give them a shot because I like to support local businesses. BTW Sam's has a Twitter feed that will notify you when new and limited offerings arrive.

Actually, I'm from Cary. Apex is just around the corner though.

I'll have to stop in the Beer Dispensary. I'm in Apex a lot geocaching. While I've mostly quit the craft beer thing (got tired of spending $4/bottle only to drink it and decide I'd have been as happy with Yeungling ), there are a few that I'd like to try/have around.

Do you know if they have any Stone products? I'm particularly looking for Stone Smoked Porter. If you've never tried it but like porters at all, it's out of this world.

I'm going to Pittsburgh next week-end and I don't feel like browsing throught the whole thread. If some of you guys could tell me which neighborhoods are good for the nightlife, it would be appreciated.

I was just about to make a smarmy post about the south side. Oakland, too.

For an actual good time, any East End neighborhood is a good bet. On a related note, I saw Slim Cessna play last night in Polish Hill... pretty ****ing awesome.

I just can't take the clowns down there acting like they're high rollers from Entourage, getting into fights and then driving piss drunk home to Charleroi, Ambridge etc...

I know this sounds pretty pretentious, but I can't even really stand to be in the vicinity of the South Side, unless it's for a game at Piper's or a meal and drink at Fathead's. Oakland, to it's credit, is a bit better.

All I know is that I like Fatheads, Mario's can be okay at times, and I saw 3 streakers in one night at one of the other bars...

Anyway...I was extremely excited to find out that Big Sky has Slow Elk in the tap room right now, their one limited release I've never had. It also has one of the best names/art I've ever seen for a beer.

Of course the fact that it hasn't been in bottles in years and is usually only in the taproom for 4-5 days a year (if its made that given year) renders the art largely unseen. A shame.

Its a solid stout for a company that doesn't do much in terms of stouts and porters, but nothing truly exceptional.

I prefer quiet "irish-like" pubs or places with live bands. However, my friends want to hit a club while we're down here.

JS1, how old are you? Could probably go to Piper's Pub for a bit and then go to the clubs afterwards.

Carson Street is probably your best bet if you're in for one night with some crazy friends. If you're over 25 or so you probably want to look elsewhere.

We have reservations at Cioppino Saturday night. Anything in that area for after dinner drinks? We're celebrating our anniversary.

(And I'll be smoking cigars if possible, I know Cioppino has a cigar bar)

Firehouse Lounge is pretty close to there, probably a good option depending on what's going on that night.

(why in the world did I have to agree to terms to post?)

Back on topic, see my above post, and the reply.

Firehouse Lounge is in the 'strip district'. Upstairs is a lounge area, and dance floor with DJ on weekends. On the ground floor is Embury, a 'Prohibition Era' style bar. It's pretty cool.

2 blocks from there is Cioppino, they have steaks and seafood and a cigar bar. They also have entertainment in an adjacent lounge.

I'm in my mid 40's, not into the 'club' scene, so both of these places were perfect.

As for clubs, cheap food and beer? if that is what you were asking, not really sure about that

Tried a few different beers tonight.

Had a 500 ml. can of Holsten Premium (which is a German pilsner) earlier this evening as well as a 500 ml. bottle of Hobgoblin (which is an English brown ale).

Both were good, but if I had to choose I'd go with Hobgoblin.

Here's something especially business travellers might find handy:

http://www.brewerymap.com/

Here's an article that I saw in the Raleigh paper about it with info on the opensource brewery databse. I haven't tinkered much but you can search for breweries in an area and get brewery info, a link and a list of their beers with some info on each. There isn't any rating system but you can get that elsewhere.

I don't travel as much as I used to but this would have made beerventures much simpler when I was.
