Only played on an actual pond once or twice.....thankfully I live right next to a lake where it gets cold enough in the winter that the ice is thick enough, so usually, my friends and I make our own rink out there when it freezes and just play out there.
been a good year for me...and been a cold few weeks...NOTHING beats playing some pond hockey, eating some good food, playing more pond hockey, then watching opening day...YES that will be my sat. anyone else?
Mine will be similar. I have an outdoor game in the morning and then I'll be watching the Hawks game at noon and then HNIC at my brother in laws. He's from Mississauga and a Leafs fan. Can't wait. You are right that nothing beats a bit of outdoor puck and then a nightcap of HNIC.
I have a small pond (80x30) behind our house, it's pretty shallow so it freezes up pretty fast. Last year we got 10 weeks of decent skating in on it. This year we've only had 3 weeks so far. Last weeks warm spell meant the ice thinned quickly. On the up side this weeks deep freeze with no snow or wind meant that the new ice is super smooth.
