I think Cgy has less options overall so they are dressing their main roster....they know the makeup of their entire roster less maybe one spot or two.

Due to their challenges they need to get chemistry fast and get off to a quick start....rack up the points while they can.....

another of my specualtion is that Sutter really needs to see what his team can do....if they struggle in preseason,(he knows he has to trade either Sarich or Regehr)then he may have to really trade Regehr(also Sarich for cap reasons) to get a top six scorer

Jeez, that Calgary game roster...we might be better off with Noel playing centre than coaching.

I'm ecstatic that Canucks are icing the worst possible line-up to Calgary's A roster because it will make it much easier to see which Canuck will rise up to occasion and shine. Also, if Canucks managed to pull the upset, then it can only demoralize Calgary.

Any bubble Canuck player will get have the opportunity to score huge tonight with the Canucks brass.

What are the odds the Flames score in one game and the Canucks score in the other game within 10 seconds... And would that make hfboards blow up?

Ah man, love the jokes in here. Great to have hockey back...even if we are icing more scrubs than you can shake a stick at.

Predictions:

- Hordichuk fights Ivanans as early as possible.
- Tambellini will be the best forward for the Canucks in Calgary.
- Morrison will get big cheers in Vancouver and get a couple of assists.
- Kevin Bieksa will look good tonight.(bold prediction)
- Eddie Lack will have a shaky start but come on strong.

What's scary is that Tambellini does have the most career points of any Canucks forward dressed in Calgary tonight

Hmm, that game in Calgary really is a lopsided match! Basically an nhl roster vs an ahl roster.

However, the motivation factor works big time in the canucks favour: Almost the entire Flames lineup is made up of veterans that have already been penciled into the opening night lineup. The game for them is just a warmup after a long offseason. However, everybody on the canucks roster is fighting for a spot on the team and will be playing at their highest intensity.

I expect a close game.

I think Bieksa will make Connauton look even worse defensively than he already is.

I think the Flames fans are confused and will ALL wear red to the game thinking it's the playoffs.

I think they have just tried to blank out the last quarter of the regular season and the off-season.

What's the over/under on the number of times we see two forwards defending a Calgary rush because they both got caught up-ice?

Upper bowl? Rift.

Can't wait to watch some hockey! Wish it was the Vancouver game on TV. Having PVR ability is so much easier when multi-tasking some play time with my son.

their are likely six spots up for competition actually.
The entire 4th line, 3rd line RW, And the Bottom Pairing.
We need to ice veterans because they are fighting for spots (Staois,Sarich,Pardy,Conroy,Moss,Kotalik) so if they get outplayed by the young guys(Backlund,Pelech,Negrin,Brodie,Sutter,Stone) they will either be traded if possible or demoted.

And our entire Top six needs the time to develop chemistry due to the fact no line has played more than 20 games together which could be a problem if we throw them together and hope they play well to start the season.

Just to give you an idea of our lineup so far.
Tanguay-Jokinen-Iginla
Hagman-Stajan-Bourque
Glencross-Backlund- XXX
XXX - XXX - XXX

Bouwmeester-Regehr
Giordano-White
XXX - XXX

Those are the only real locks, And Backlund may be put on the wing or in the AHL when Langkow comes back.

Quite the feat to be able to even dress two teams of mostly prospects. And that's without guys like Hodgson, Rodin etc. Interested to see all these guys play.

Don't really care about the result, not really important at this point. Kinda strange Calgary is dressing so many vets. Do Iginla and Kipper really need the development? Usually the first couple pre-season games are all scrubs/rookies. Then you use the pracitse time and final pre-season games to jell and ice a roster that resembles opening night. But hey, it's the Flames. Not much they have done in the past 6-8 months makes any sense.

Well this is a chance to dress both the vets and the prospects closest to the NHL, in on day. I dont see why you wouldnt atleast give them the opportunity.

I am sure if it was only one game you would see just prospects, although the majority of those prospects have just played against each other in a prospects tournament anyway...
