and seriously guys, people are ranting about how bad Kabs played... okay everybody played horrible defensively, but his passes looked GREAT on the powerplay. Phaneuf couldn't hit the net, and nobody else knew what to do when they got the puck.

Give the guy a break. Seriously.
yea really. i didn't think Kaberle was that bad at all. not his fault that he was surrounded with guys who didn't know what to do with the puck once he fed it to them on a platter. his passing skills are a pleasure to watch. only complaint is he didn't shoot when he had some golden opportunities to do so...but what else is new.

i don't think we should worry, it isn't the same sport, but the soccer chelsea fc completely got ****ted on during the preseason(and I mean ****TED on) then somehow they scored 6-0 in their first two games and didn't even get scored on until like the 4th game.
even though that ain't gonna happen... preseason is just to get on the ice so people don't freak out in the beginning of the season, and my theory is everyone was drinking heavily yesterday so we should be good tomorrow!!

Well, that sucked. The most excited everyone got was when Wendel Clark was in the stands giving a fan a prize or something. Brown and Hanson looked good for us, but the offense was very poor, as was the (shudder) powerplay. I was particularly displeased with how Phaneuf played, especially considering how solid he was for us last year defensively.

Not worried after one pre-season game though, of course - it really doesn't mean all that much in the end. I was just hoping for a better first game to wash away the taste of last season, especially since this will probably end up being the only game I can attend.

Well, that stunk.

The only redeeming part of this game was how good Hanson was.

Looks like he managed to readjust his attitude to match his massive frame - he played MEAN out there, and if he can do that consistently, he can be an absolute force out there.

Nice to see.

Initial thought: this game was rigged my Pepsi

But seriously, maybe this game is a sign since last year we had a great pre-season and ended 29th in the league. Maybe a crappy pre-season will mean dark horse conference finalist!

My thoughts when at the game:
a. Never heard of Simon Gysbers and based on what I saw, I hope I never do. Maybe a few years with the Marlies will help, but he made a ton of mistakes tonight getting out of position, unable to control the puck, etc. IMO, he was the worst player on the ice.

b. Defence was afraid to shoot the puck (sound familiar?). Of all poeple Kaberle and Phaneuf had many good opportunities on the PP to shoot and they either hesitated too long and were forced to pass, or just kept on passing

c. Kadri is an interesting guy to watch. Displayed some nice stick handling and as Versteeg said the other day in an inrerview, Kadri will sometimes pass the puck when any one would least suspect it which therefore, can set up plays or scoring chances. Got caught out of position at least once (it was terribly bad), but this is only the first pre-season game. Wilson has commented that Kadri mainly needs to work on his two-way play.

I wasn't trying to compare the two. My point was the OP said that Kadri had all these holes in his game, but they are very similar to the ones Spezza has yet he is still a very good NHL player.

I think we all need to relax and give Kadri 3-4 more pre-season games before we label him a bust and/or a 3rd line NHL'er.

Personally I thought Kadri looked good. Made a bunch of slick plays and could have had a number of points.

I think people are expecting him to be a star out there already - he's not. he's 19.

Put the expectations on him that you'd put on other 2nd liners, because that's what he is at this point.

They were doing that jersey toss at the game, with players who were scratched tossing jerseys into the crowd. Some Sens fan had a Hasek jersey on but caught a Versteeg jersey. Then he pulled off his Sens jersey to the cheer of everyone in the surrounding sections and pulled on the Leafs jersey.
