Thanks Zecke. There’ve been a few Griffins threads but now that we’re getting real close to the season, and we have a better idea of what the roster will look like, perfect time for a fresh one. This has got to be the most well-rounded Griffins squad in a long, long time. Great veteran additions in Minard, Johnson and Filppula (lets not forget Maltby too), and some exciting new faces in Andersson and Raedeke up front with Smith and Lashoff on the back end. Without wanting to get too far ahead of myself, all things considered, this team should comfortably make the playoffs and do some real damage.

This is how I see the roster initially:

Minard* - Johnson - Mursak
Tatar - Filppula - Owens
Emmerton - Andersson - Tardif
Pare - Raedeke - Coetzee/Maltby

* If Minard is injured, bump wingers up one line and put both Coetzee and Maltby on the same line.

Janik - Lashoff
Smith - Meech
Kolosov - Pyett

(Amadio/Piche/Ehrhardt)

McCollum
MacDonald

Having Meech is a luxury, one we probably won't have for too long. The defence looks awesome though, if Janik sticks in GR for most of the year he'll be a force, and I have high hopes for Lashoff. Smith's the wildcard, will be have a rocky rookie season like Kindl or will be thrive? Could go either way. Hopefully Kolosov and Pyett continue to develop and I'm hoping Piche gets a chance to prove himself this year, a real talent IMO.

As Ilari played with Johnson in Sveden, I hope they play on the same line at the start of the season with either Tats or zak on the other wing. I hope Emmerton plays center too. As Minard has a concussion, I would leave him off for now. Bigger 2nd line with speed.

Tatar - Filppula - Johnson
Owens - Andersson - Mursak
Pare - Emmerton - Tardif
Maltby - Raedeke - Coetzee

Does anyone else see a slight chance Erikson will not make the wings & Meech stays up? I could see (not that I want to) one or more of Eriksson, Meech, Ritola, or Miller traded for a prospect who can pass through waivers. Anyway I don't see Meech in GR this year. As Pyatt is the only RH shot, I would pair him with a more offensive partner or Amadio

Smith -Janik
Pyett - Lashoff/Amadio
Kolosov - Lashoff/Amadio
(Piche/Ehrhardt)

Kindl will play in the NHL this year. Downey may be a Griffin, but Archibald may go back to Jrs. Very Interesting move of Meech to forward

Kindl in NHL?

Lidstrom - Rafalski
Kronwall - Stuart
Ericsson - Salei

No room.

Kindl is out of options. He either plays for the Wings as the 7th D (most likely) or gets waived (very unlikely). I doubt he would pass through waivers to play for the Griffins. If he was waived, another NHL team would pick him up and they must keep him on the roster (hence the NHL) or waive him again. He has too much talent to make it through waivers.

Maltby - Johnson - Owens/Tardiff
Tatar - Emmerton - Mursak
Pare - Andersson - Tardif/Owens
Filppula - Raedeke - Coetzee/Minard

This is about what wil happen maybe the top 6 rearranged or Owens going down when Minard is back or maybe not.

Janik - Smith
Pyett - Meech
Kolosov - Ehrhardt
Piche, Lashoff

Stacked again on defense, at least on paper. Hopefully the can perform better than last year.

I really wanna see Owens do some damage this year. Get in 10 fights, hit everything that moves, be strong on the pk and even put up half decent numbers and their shouldn't be a reason why this kid isn't in Detroit in 2 years.

The Red Wings also announced they've signed forward Trevor Parkes to a three-year entry level deal. He'll likely play with Grand Rapids.
Another addition perhaps.

Does that mean he's not a candidate for GR?

Any word on Coetzee?
I'd love to have him back in Red Deer for the WHL season.
Any idea when moves will be made?

Thanks.

My wish that Ilari would come here & be great clouded my judgement. Emmerton is doing just what I hoped Andersson would. Your 2nd line looks great at this point.

mbab99- I see Coetzee on the Griffins website roster. Nov. 1990 b-day. Who are your Red Deers overage players? I always forget the rules as to cut off born date for overage and how many a team can carry on their roster.
Hope Lashoff is a quick learner, Kindl looked lost Sunday against the Rangers.

I know it might not be an excuse, but Kindl did play against Chicago the night before. he had to travel to Detroit then play the next evening. Fitness might have been an issue.

He had an up down game. He made some really nice passes especially on the PP, but he also had some terrible mistakes defensively.

Yeah, he made some really bad giveaways. but he looked pretty good on the PP. he gelled well and passed the puck to maintain a fluid play. He's definitely got potential, no doubt. seems to have a good shot as well.

I'd rather have him on the Griffins playing the pro game. Plus its much easier on my wallet to watch GR games.

We've got a couple 20 year olds on the team. 1990 is the cut off. Of course if Coetzee came back to Red Deer, a place would be made for him.
I'm doubting that he will be coming back, but thought I'd ask the question to see if anyone really knew. Is he currently still on the Red Wings try out roster?
