Is anyone going? If so, do you have any tips for a German beer loving American Oktoberfest virgin? My main concern is just being able to find a seat, but I'll be in Munich during the week (Monday 9/20 - Wednesday 9/22), there's only 2 of us, and from what I've heard it's easier to get in during the week than on the weekends.
Also, I'll be staying a bit outside of the city. My hotel is very close to an U-Bahn station that is apparently a 9 minute ride from the Wiesen, but I'm a little unsure about my drunken navigation abilities. Does anyone have an idea about how much a taxi from the Wiesen to Obersendling should cost?

The U-Bahn is so easy to navigate it shouldn't be a problem. I haven't been to Oktoberfest but I'd love to, I have been during the summer though and you should learn (if you don't already know) what to say when ordering a drink or food, that's all you really need. If you're well versed in German then ignore what I was saying.

Thanks dude. I know a decent amount of basic German, but I only really anticipate having to say the following at Oktoberfest:
Imo the Oktoberfest in Munich really really sucks.
The one in Stuttgart and pretty much in every decent-sized Bavarian city are
so much better, cheaper, less crowded and not full of obnoxious Italians.
(I love Italians but they were hugely annoying at the Oktoberfest when I was
there. At least the Aussies and British are funny.)
I'm typically the kind of person that will probably end up feeling this way, but I still have to find out for myself. Even if I end up hating it, I will be glad to have experienced it. That said, I am going to do everything I can to avoid the non-Germans as much as possible and to have a great time! You can't knock something until you've tried it, right?
No need to avoid the non-Germans, the Brits and Aussies are really really fun imo, more than most Germans really.
You will feel left out a bit when the songs start because every German will know the text and sing along enthusiastically.
It's also totally possible that you won't find the Italians that annoying since you're a male (I guess), I'm not.
Even though I think the Stuttgarter version is better, as a tourist you still have lots of fun in Munich because the atmosphere around the whole city during that time,
not only the Oktoberfest-area is awesome, especially when the weather is great.
Well you definitely will have fun. During the week 2 of you should be able to find seats in the evening. Just need to walk around tends and ask. Normally people are relatively friendly.
Cab should not cost you more than 15€ (20$). If you can actually find one. No reason not to take underground back @ night either.
Unless you continue to party on after Oktoberfest.
Wiesn - Wasn debate. Lets better not start. Both have their advantages. I Prefer the Wiesn.

Yeah, so Oktoberfest was really fun. I definitely got a pretty nasty case of the Oktoberfest flu though that I'm still not really over (about 10 days after the fact). Worth it though.
Also, I went to Berlin on this trip as well and it has now become my favorite city abroad (I live in NYC). What a great place. I <3 Germany!
