Whoa, whoa...

I would think Vaananan had a lot more to do with them dealing Morris than Gratton.

That's true although I would argue that Ballard's value as a prospect is almost worth Vaananen.

If you do the math on the Oilers, they CAN'T afford to pay Isbister. A conservative extimate of this same team with no raises for our GII FA (Bergeron, Dvo, ect.) and the raises already in place for some guys (York, Smyth) plus Nedved at a reasonable rate of 3.75M puts the Oil payroll at over 34.1M dollars US not including bonuses.

Isbister will be cut loose or traded. End of story. If he's not, Kevin Lowe is making a mistake.

Yeah nature of the small market beast - Smith is also probably history for the same reason - he has priced his way out of town given his skill-set and contribution.

I've heard that the Oilers are going to offer Isbister a 2 year deal worth $1.25 mil per season.

I would prefer a 1 year deal but 2 years would suit me just fine

I'd go for that, and hey if he does happen to break out sometime in the next 2 years Lowe would be dancing for how much he is paying Isbister.

The Oilers are left with a choice between Isbister and Rita. I personally wouldn't mind Rita being here. At least he's not injured all the time and is younger than Izzy. Isbister has size, but doesn't use it enough. Either way it's not a terrible situation for Lowe as he does have some options.

I see it more of a choice between Rita and Chimera to be honest. And I would likely give the nod to Rita given that he has a higher upside.
