Do you know what you are seeing when you watch the game?

Sure doesn,t seem like it.

Less hype more watchy and learny?

Cogliano was top 45 in goals for his positon the first two years. then quinn the no win coaches for 3/4 of the year. many suffer under him. renney starts to run the lines and cogliano goes on a 25g year pace or top 25 scoring for his position.

as for schenn he has declined under wilson's care. he willbe worthmore if he bouces back.

if cogs gets 25G this year do you do the cogs for schenn trade with petry looking like he is pushing his way into the line-up.

Lol at Schenn being a bottom pairing guy, but Smid would be considered God.

Schenn is a great player. He's going to be a very useful 2/3 d-man. 2 if his offense comes around, 3 if it doesn't. Either way, he is someone you want. Anyone suggesting he is a bottom pairing guy is just wrong.

But from and Oiler POV, Smid is looking like he can fill a similar role. He is passing the puck and shooting it much better this year and his puckhandling, skating, positioning and defensive skills were already quite good. He's going to be getting top 4 minutes for the first time in his career and could surprise many with what he can do. He was a top 10 pick too after all.

So Schenn doesn't have the same value to us as some other teams.

Not trying to justify the trade, as from a leaf point of view we feel the same about Bozak and Kadri who is coming up. Just amazing to see the narrow-minded view of Schenn from some people.

For EDM it fills a hole but creates another one.

I think it comes down to our prospect pool.

If we trade Gagner, who would be stepping in at C? Vande Velde? O'Marra? Martindale?

Then you ask, who would step into our top 4, and the answer is much clearer with Plante and Petry. Belle is almost there too if he continues his preseason play.

Even with our limited D prospect depth, we're still much stronger there than at C.

TO wouldn't want Gagner / Bozak as their 1 and 2 they're too small. Edmonton would love Schenn but we can't give up our current first line center. Decent proposal value wise though.

Oilers have Smid already. Don't need two young shutdown guys in the top 4. Gagner is invaluable to the rebuild. Massive no.

I also think Schenn is a massively over-rated pile of poo, but that's another story.

How?

Is struggling early, and then overcoming it, your definition of declining?
