Sanguinetti got hit pretty hard against Norfolk on the 4th early in the 3rd and didn't return. His hip injury is probably bothering him. So it's no surprise to hear his game looks off.

Fitzgerald is indeed a head case for opposing teams. He's got his own posse to show for it. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Zack-F...93174484032124

Bears lead 1-0 after 1 in Game 2. Anyone know if there is somewhere to watch?

Pogge is not having a good night. Dalpe just got the checkers back within 1 with his second goal of the game but Souray just made it 4-2 halfway through the game.

Too bad Mike Murphy is still injured. He's better than Pogge.

Pogge lets in at least one soft goal a game and gets frustrated very easily.

At least Dalpe wants to win, let's see who else wants to step up.

4-2 final. The Souray goal was shorthanded. Michal Jordan was -3. Not a good game. Pogge was 12/16 at one point midway through the second.

Whatever happened to Pogge?

He went from Leafs goalie of the future to AHL dud.

That's just it, he was never all that highly regarded in juniors. The leafs nation and Canadian fans in general blew his world juniors performance way out of proportion. Any Canadian goalie who plays well there is dubbed the next big thing and you know how leafs fans get out of control what with every decent prospect being their savior. Just way overhyped, that's all.

I probably missed an update somewhere, but I thought for sure Samson would be down with the Checkers for the playoffs. Why isn't he playing?

He wasn't on their 22-man clear day roster. Only those listed on the clear day roster are able to compete in the remainder of the AHL season (when this list was submitted) and playoffs. If a team signs a junior/college player (for instance, Justin Faulk), after their respective junior/college seasons are complete, they are eligible to play.

The Checkers' Clear Day roster;

Mike Murphy
Justin Pogge
Brett Bellemore
Nicolas Blanchard
Casey Borer
Drayson Bowman
Zach Boychuk
Zac Dalpe
Nick Dodge
Zack FitzGerald
Ethan Graham
Brad Herauf
Michal Jordan
Jon Matsumoto
Jacob Micflikier
Riley Nash
Oskar Osala
Matthew Pistilli
Bryan Rodney
Bobby Sanguinetti
Brett Sutter
Chris Terry

Checkers missing Samson is HUGE... I'm not sure how far they can go with Pogge and no Samson

That surprises me- I remember a few years back the Bears were playing Portland in the conference finals. The Ducks got eliminated right before the series started so they sent down Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Dustin Penner to play as a line for Portland. I thought as long as you played a certain number of games that season in the AHL you were eligible. I guess I was wrong. Samson could really push the Checkers over the edge and make them a front-runner. Looks like the Canes just dropped the ball on that one.

Samson would have had to clear waivers to go back to the AHL

I'd like to have Samson as much as the next guy, but I'd hate to lose him in the waiver game.

Need to win at least one of these next games. Preferably both so the Checkers can have the option to knock the Bears out at home on Friday night.

We'll see how Justin Faulk will do.

Using an old-fashion, RPG-type summon, he will call upon the spirit of the Anton and score 33 goals, all on the powerplay.

He's a Hurricane now, there'll be none of that.

No, he's a CHECKER... He's never going to score an NHL goal in his career.

Murphy is back tonight but the checkers were down 3-0 after 1. Dodge and Boychuk have it back to 3-2 with 10 minutes left in the third.

I knew that Hershey had a few more veteran players than Charlotte so I went to calculate the average age of each roster. I don't mean to post this in an attempt to say "oh our team is better b/c we're younger" or to accuse Hershey of cheating or anything, by the way.

The average age of a Hershey Bear is 26.2 and the average age of a Charlotte Checker is 22.5. I thought for sure the disparity would be less than that.

Anyway, what is way more important is the win. Go get it done Checkers!

*These numbers are approximate. I assumed no one's birthday had ocurred so far this year.
** The Checkers' age is a hair less at 22.3 if you include Faulk.

I'm glad to hear that Mike Murphy is back, but he must have been rusty to allow 3 goals on 8 shots early on. Need a win tomorrow night.

Thought Faulk would be in the line-up tonight but the score sheet doesn't have him listed.

Murphy back on his game. 1-1 after 2 and he's 23/24.

Nick Dodge, and it's 3-1 late.

Checkers win 3-2 to tie the series!
